paddle 1:59:52 [3] 18.6 km (6:27 / km)
shoes: Spirit PRS plastic

Evening river paddle from Banks reserve to Tonkin Hwy, continued for about 4-5 minutes, then turned around. Had been looking for an obvious repeateable spot to turn, but wasn't going to see one in the dark.

Couple of stops - one for a phone call after 25 min and one to stretch out the left glute/hammy and get feling back in my leg when I got back to Garrett Rd Bridge. At the second stop I moved the foot pedals back to where I originally had them, before my gumby day on the river with John and MTBJen. I had changed them after that in a desperate attempt to find some stability and never put them back.

Felt very different after, despite the small change, so, as I was never going to test whether it was more stable on a millpond river, thought I'd go hardish and see if it was any faster. Garret Rd Bridge-Banks in about 40:30. (about 6:15 pace...) Arms were starting to fatigue quite badly in the last 20 minutes (to join my back, which had been feeling it from the half hour mark). Will leave it where it is now and see what happens. Felt much more comfortable, though glute screaming again by the end.

Orienteering race (Navdash Guildford Grammar) 18:53 [5] ***
spiked:20/25c shoes: Asics 3000

First sprint race for the year. Good to have all 4 of the '93 Schools' Team there. Ran straight past the first one, not seeing it on the play equipment (was lookng at ground level), missed a turn to the second one, then settled into it a bit. Amazing what looks like the middle of the circle when you're running out of oxygen - gould have sworn the circle at 8 was centred on the pole, bt it's nowhere near it - my bad again. Stopped early at 11, where there was a man-made feature before the mapped one (or before the one that the control was on, anyway. Really happy with the next section through the buildings until 19 where I ran straight past the correct staircase, looked at it, somehow didn't see the control, then stood around looking confused for somewhere like 20 seconds. Pretty critical in a sprint race, and Craig got me by 6 sec at the end, so will be interesting to see the splits. Irrelevant for the win as Lucky Luke totally smashed us all, but will be very tightly fought once he leaves.

Would be keen to run the rest of the series with a HR monitor to try to figure out what pace it is that I can hold and still run cleanly, as I went over it at times today (also would be interested to see if the map reading picks up with a bit of regular nav.)

run warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics 3000

Very generous guesstimate at my warm-up and cooldown.

Windtrainer 50:00 [4]
shoes: Avanti Blade

Long day at school. 6:45 start for swim training and gym supervision after school as I'm the only phys edder at the moment. Couldn't face getting up at 4:30am, so squeezed in a quick windtrainer session after work.
1:2:3:4:5:4:3:2:1 pyramid with 1 minute recoveries. Plus w/u and cooldown.

Bonus of the day was finding out that the dodgy looking old windtrainer that was given to me last year is better (and quieter) than mine. Will keep that one at school and mine at home and should have no excuses for not getting these sessions done a bit more often.

Note

Cross country training next week onwards, so new weekly routine is needed. Plan at the moment is to commute Monday and Wednesday, Windtrainer Thursday pm, Run Tuesday intervals pm and Friday morning, plus river paddle Friday night and whatever fits into the weekend...
Will see if it eventuates.

cycle (commute) 1:03:50 [3] 29.0 km (2:12 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

first ride to schoo since entire drivetrain was replaced. Much smoother and quieter and looks even more like a gumby commuter bike with the plastic ring so I don't ct myself on the front chainring :)

Strangely, despite feling good, I never quite got going. Even though all the usual noises were gone and replaced by a soft whisper.

Turned out the front wheel wasn't on properly and was rubbing pretty solidly on the brake. Whisper whisper. Bugger.

cycle (commute) 1:03:15 [3] 29.0 km (2:11 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Ride home. Wind not too terrible. Felt a bit stronger than the ride in.

run (sand) 55:08 [3]
shoes: barefoot

Switched sand run to Tuesday as can't make intervals tonight. Knee not 100% but has been feeling Ok at school today, so I guess that's good. Actually looking forward to getting back on the bike tomorrow. Weird.
