Note

Heart decided to be stupid last night and again early this morning. First time since medication started. Hmmmm.

Won’t be training till after I get back from a school camp on Tuesday. Need to actually get properly healthy first (had the day off work for something other than a medical appointment for a change!)

Note

Bit of a fever last night, but thankfully nose was a lot drier than yesterday otherwise 45 minutes in an MRI machine would have been hell.
Apparently people fall asleep in those things, but the whole 45 min was a series of loud noises and breath holding, so I’ve no idea how.
Hopefully no more Perth trips before Easter.

Note
(sick)

Have a cold and hurt my foot playing 5 minutes of volleyball in my dress shoes.
Sore foot is probably a good thing as it removes the temptation to be really stupid and exercise while I’m sick. RHR is quite elevated (but heart rhythm is fine)

Zwift 30:20 [2] 16.26 km (1:52 / km) +46m 1:50 / km
shoes: Avanti Blade

An easy half hour on the bike in the shed on the flattest Zwift course possible to make sure that gentle exercise doesn’t disagree with my heart.
Early signs on Flecainide are promising, but have had occasional tiny flutters still during the day, so may need to tweak dose.
No issues exercising so my Easter entry is going in! Will do a few more rides, gradually working a bit harder, then graduate to a jog around the oval next to my house.

Note

Different day, different doctor, different solution.

Apparently the ‘pauses’ from my monitor reading are not particularly uncommon or concerning and the AF component can be managed with medication.

2 pills per day beats heart surgery. No side effects so far and have had most settled heart for weeks today, so hopefully not too much fiddling. with dosages necessary.

Still need to have a cardiac MRI just for box-ticking. Not expecting to find anything.

May even wase back into some gentle exercise by the end of the weekend! Happy days.

Note

Bugger.

I’ve posted more elsewhere but the bit in bold at the end of the cardiology report probably sums it up.

“Appearances suggestive of sinus node dysfunction ie: “tachy-brady syndrome”. Specialist review and consideration of pacemaker are recommended.”

Note

SoI got a call from my doctor today. “We’ve got your cardiology results and you NEED to make an appointment either today or tomorrow.” Not sure that this sounds too encouraging. Hoping they’re just in a hurry to give me the all clear.
Of course, when I tried to book an appointment last week preempting the arrival of these results, I was told I could get an appointment on April 12. Telling them it was for cardiology results got me an appointment tomorrow afternoon, and given I’m in Perth today anyway, it’s fair to say I was one step ahead. Had ro point out to them that I already had the appt. booked...

Note

Haven’t had a heart attack yet. Also haven’t exercised. Trip to Perth for school swim carnival on Sunday/Monday, so only one ‘work’ day till results...

Thursday Mar 14, 2019 #

Note

Heart was crap. Went home at lunch. Roll on Tuesday.

Wednesday Mar 13, 2019 #

Note

Today was the worst my heart has ever been at work.
Still no exercise. Except for 5 minutes of volleyball, which was enough to sprain my thumb.
Crap.

Tuesday Mar 12, 2019 #

Note

Monitor off. Apparently 5 working days to get results. Might start training while I wait.

Monday Mar 11, 2019 #

Note

Been keeping the holter monitor pretty busy, especially at night. My new game is to make something that feels very much like heart palpitations happen by taking a really deep breath or coughing when I am sitting on the couch.

Still contemplating running elites at Easter though, as long as doctors let me run at all!

Saturday Mar 9, 2019 #

Note

First night with the monitor I was too lazy to hit the report button when my heart played up - trying to actually sleep. This was followed by two days and a night of not much happening and I was starting to have visions of having wasted another week. Fortunately ? there was plenty to record last night, so hopefully there will be some answers coming out of this exercise.

Wednesday Mar 6, 2019 #

Note

Monitor now attached, so I expect my heart to be totally normal for the next 7 days. Major challenge for the week will be sleeping!

Tuesday Mar 5, 2019 #

Note

Stress test showed up nothing. Monitor tomorrow. Tempting to push the treadmill test as far as I could but was feeling a bit wheezy, so stopped when HR hit 175.
Bit weird ‘running’ with the instruction to hold the bar at the front of the treadmill with both hands.

Monday Mar 4, 2019 #

Note

Yay. I get to exercise tomorrow. Hopefully that is one step closer to being allowed to start training again...

Friday Mar 1, 2019 #

Note

Appointment #1 down. Apparently I do have a heart. And nothing it did during the echocardiogram was particularly amazing- or at least not unusual enough to give me any further warnings before it is examined by a doctor, or to rush me to the ED.
Perth, here I come for round 2.
