Note

Well, my return to training didn't take long to fall in a hole. At least I have a few km in the legs and am not injured.
As well as general busyness and lazyness combining to stop me getting out the door, I just found out that I'm the top internal applicant for the job I applied for. Not yet sure if that makes me feel more or less stressed.

More people getting interviewed this week, then might know what I'll be doing next year.

Too much data from my new toy...

Short, comfortable (except for the lack of skin on the bottom of my big toe) softish sand run from Pages Beac, around Point Moore and back.

Apparently...

Training Effect: 3.4 (dunno what that means yet)
Average cadence: 167
Average stride length: 1.04m
400 calories

Other things I've learnt so far - more light sleep than deep sleep last night, apparently, my RHR is 36 (seems too low, but possible while sleeping?)

My heart rate ones seem to be very differently defined in AP than on the watch. I like the AP ones more.
So much time to be wasted here...

Saturday Oct 22, 2016 #

9 AM

run 31:20 [3] 6.3 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Morning jog. Lat one before my real (gps-verified) training starts again. Hurrah.
Felt pretty good with the world other than forgetting to use ventolin before I started and feeling a bit wheezy the whole way.

May not have run for a few days, but at least have been doing a few calf exercises. All felt pretty good today. Will count that as my first three weeks and start gradually introducing some longer runs and some strides into a few easy ones and see how I go.

As awesome as it all looks, don't think I would be enjoying a 23km trail run just yet. Maybe next year...

Note
(rest day)

So- yesterday ended up way busier than I thought, and I just never had the time to get out the door. Today, I had to play a basketball match. Happily, my achilleses didn't object. Think some of my warning signs starting to appear may unfortunately confirm that they are at least partly shoe related. So will be sparing gin my use of the Glycerins from now on and may need to bring the rainbow Mizunos into the mix sooner rather than later.

Monday Oct 17, 2016 #

5 PM

run 30:48 [3] 6.3 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Keeping the gap to 1 day. Track starting to soften up a little bit. Running also starting to feel a bit easier. Exams marked and job app delivered, so rest of the week should be manageable.
Only downside is that R heel has been a bit off the last 2 runs.

Note

A disappointing end to my Runtober attempt. Didn't get out of bed in the morning, thinking I would use the run to break up some work stuff in the afternoon.

Forgot that I had to take the kids to a singing performance after lunch.

Have just finished my job application at 10pm and still need to do exam marking (to hand back at 8:40am tomorrow).

Think I've done my dash (and heading out at 11:30pm just to keep the streak alive is probably counterproductive).

Saturday Oct 15, 2016 #

1 PM

run 32:48 [3] 6.5 km (5:03 / km)
shoes: roclite 285

Round the MTB trail. Nice day for it.

Friday Oct 14, 2016 #

5 PM

run 31:30 [3] 6.4 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Running in daylight again. Felt alright. 2 weeks down. Still not sure about job.

Thursday Oct 13, 2016 #

7 PM

run 31:30 [2] 6.15 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Staggeringly uninspired run after a poo day at work. Roll on the weekend.

Do I really want to apply for a deputy principal position... still unconvinced.

Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 #

7 PM

run 32:40 [2] 6.4 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Was so up for this one that I didn't even bother changing out of my work clothes. Wasn't too terrible once I was going. Had mercifully cooled down quite a lot from the peak of 37 earlier in the day.

Running was not as fun as helping supervise a canoeing lesson during the afternoon.

Tuesday Oct 11, 2016 #

5 PM

run 30:11 [3] 6.3 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Not really feeling it this afternoon, legs and shoulders a bit sore from doing a circuit with year 7's yesterday. Got moving alright though and right knee was good.

Monday Oct 10, 2016 #

6 PM

run 30:57 [3] 6.5 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Squeezed in a quick run just before dinner/dark. Felt like I started a bit quicker, mainly because the wind wa freezing. Of course I might just have been imagining it - distance is again a rough estimate.

Sunday Oct 9, 2016 #

4 PM

run 37:53 [3] 7.0 km (5:25 / km)
shoes: roclite 285

Arvo run around the MTB trails along the river. Must have been going the 'wrong way' as all 7 MTB riders I met eere headed the other direction. This loop still involves getting feet wet at the moment.
Not bad for a section of river that flowed once in the first 4 years I lived here.

Saturday Oct 8, 2016 #

6 PM

run 32:55 [2] 6.6 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Day 8. Felt good in parts. Really do prefer these shoes to my Mizunos. Hopefully my legs agree with them longer term. Counting down the days to when I really start training again (ie when I have a GPS trace as proof).

Friday Oct 7, 2016 #

8 PM

run 31:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:10 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Evening blob around the burbs. Week 1 done.

Thursday Oct 6, 2016 #

7 PM

run 31:45 [2] 6.8 km (4:40 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Boring footpath run in the dark. Must make more of an effort to run in the mornings. Compacting pea gravel by hand is poo, even if you're only doing a very half hearted job if it.

Wednesday Oct 5, 2016 #

1 PM

run 34:19 [3] 7.0 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: roclite 285

Round (and thru) the river on the MTB trails. Spring has sprung... 28 degrees. Got a bit uncomfortable in the second half, but legs felt OK.

Tuesday Oct 4, 2016 #

9 AM

run 41:26 [2] 8.2 km (5:03 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 13

Morning jog from home to Pages beach for some frivolity eith my visiting brother and family. Thought I'd give the Brooks another bash fir running. Maybe they had nothing to do with my achilles not recovering previout - the improvement when Iswitched last time mat have been more to do with heel vs forefoot height.
Shoes still feel better than my Mizunos, so hopefully will get away with wearing them more often.

Monday Oct 3, 2016 #

2 PM

run 30:00 [1] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: barefoot

Soft sand run. Felt reasonable. Hurrah.

Should start working on application for potential new job rather than just thinking about it.

Sunday Oct 2, 2016 #

run 36:42 [3] 7.0 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Day 2 and an 8:30pm start. Operation Runtober is on shakey ground already.

Prime running time taken up trying, with partial success, to fix the retic in the backyard. Hopefully swapping out two of the sprinklers for smaller spraying lower pressure ones will sort one of the issues. The fact that zones 6 comes on with every other zone as well is a bit of a (massive) problem, and the hole in the pipe on the other side of the backyard is a little frustrating. Has probably been there wasting water for two years and I'd never noticed...

Saturday Oct 1, 2016 #

8 AM

run 37:05 [2] 7.5 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Wave Rider 17 Pink 2

Runtober day 1.
More fun than lifting blocks and shifting sand.
Only need to start about 2 hrs earlier to fit this in before work.
