run (injury test) 21:54 [3] 4.8 km (4:34 / km)
shoes: Reebok Premier Road Plus

Run most of the way to school to see if foot can handle running yet. Only 1 week or so off 4 months since I hurt it, so it's about time...
Felt OK. How I pull up the rest of the day and tomorrow will be the real test.
Showed my new 30 year old maturity by stopping and walking the last 2 km to school coz I thought I should just start with a 20 minute run. Sometimes I amaze myself...

cycle (commute) 20:00 [3] 7.2 km (2:47 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Very slow but hard ride into a ridiculous headwind. Time approx. Had to stop toget some keys back fom PCYC and was abused for returning their bus without sweeping it... which I did personally. Perhaps I just don't have great cleanliness standards...

Note

Well - its after dinner now and they jury's still out on my foot. Seems pretty good and I was naughty and played a bit of basketball, but not quite 100%. at some times it feels a little bruised under the ball of the foot, but it isn't hurting on toe-off, which was the main problem before... dunno. Wait and se. If it doesn't get worse I'll have another short bash on Saturday.

cycle (commute) 19:00 [1] 7.3 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Still haven't fixed the Avanti. It was cold. I was tired and slow. Time is approximate (and irrelevant). Haven't really fwlt like doing any training the last couple of days, even though I really need to get back into it.

Sunday Oct 28, 2007 #

Note

Just what was needed after a rogaine that was quite wet and cold - an 8 hour bus drive home. Yay. Even better getting to clean it afterwards... :(

Rogaine (school camp) 10:15:00 [0] 23.0 km (26:44 / km)
shoes: adidas supernova trail

Makes for a deceptive appreance to my training hours, but I had to log it ti remind myself that I was actually walking for a long time and that I may pull up with sore feet etc.
My 4 14yr olds were very slow and stopped lots on our devastating 16km straight line loop that took 7hrs 45 minutes.
I then grabbed all the students that weren't totally dead and took a group of 13 unofficially around 3 controls in the dark, just to see what it was like.
Another 2:30ish.
Physically very easy, but lots of dead timber to knee lift over. Hip flexor was taped, but not very well. Pulled up ok. Foot was starting to hurt more after about 5 hours, but a couple of nurofen seemed to fix that, and as I write this on Monday all seems good apart from tight calf muscles.
Seems reasonable to try a 20 minute jog later in the week...

Thursday Oct 25, 2007 #

Note

Rode in to school, but I was looking for some missing keys on the side of the road the whole way, so it was so slow it couldn't possibly count as training. Got a lift from school to PCYC and drove bus home for camp tomorrow

cycle (commute) 19:30 [3] 8.0 km (2:26 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Same as yesterday

cycle 15:50 [3] 7.8 km (2:02 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Boo hoo - thoght I heard a twang as I got going this arvo - sure enough I have a snapped spoke and a buckled back rim. Rubbing pretty bad. Ah well - it hasn't been to the bike shop for a while - the question is when will I have time to get it there...

Had a bit of a sore throat for the last couple of days. Getting better today. Energy levels still ok, which is nice. Have actually enjoyed teaching for the last week and a bit.

cycle (commute) 19:30 [3] 8.0 km (2:26 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Summer wind patterns seem to have settled in again... D'oh.

cycle (commute) 16:30 [3] 8.13 km (2:02 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

A rare day - the easterly stuck around today and the wind was still SE when I left school, so quicker home than the morning...

Monday Oct 22, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 17:50 [3] 7.95 km (2:15 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Hard work up Place road into a howling easterly this morning

MTB 40:00 [3]

Had toyed with the idea of taking my MTB into work this morning for a blast around the river loop, but had too much to catch up on before classes started. Then - joy of joys - the other Phys Edder called in sick and I had to take his MTB class for Outdoor Ed. Fortunately he had left his bike at work, so round the river I went after all. Felt pretty poor technically and had trouble getting feet out of pedals which resulted in a couple of falls. Much smaller frame than I'm used to and seat too low, but still good fun considering I got paid for it.

Note

Turned 30 today. Don't feel any different. Not surprising, really. 4 more days till work gets cruisy. (Year 12's leave)

cycle (commute) 22:30 [3] 8.1 km (2:47 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Wind was awful this arvo. Makes me wonder about the ride home next year...

Friday Oct 19, 2007 #

cycle 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (2:30 / km)

Shorter than usual commute to athletics track for a carnival and home again.

Wednesday Oct 17, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 17:00 [3] 7.3 km (2:20 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Note

Throughout my various illnesses over the last month I have had what has felt a bit like an annoying lump on the left side of my throat - sort of like I would expect from tonsilitis (except that I haven't had tonsils for 15 years). I finally had a good look with a torch last night and... surprise surprise there is an annoying lump that shouldn't be there that looks like half a tonsil has regrown. Funno what it is. Better go see a doctor...

Note

Oh dear - just realised this is already my biggest 'training' week since the start of September...

cycle (commute) 20:00 [3] 7.4 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Ride home. Yuk wind.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2007 #

Monday Oct 15, 2007 #

cycle (commute plus) 51:50 [3] 26.8 km (1:56 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Almost bailed and just rode to school, but once I was out the door I decided it was the best I've felt in about 4 weeks so I might as well make the most of it. Pleasant ride. SE wind, not too strong (more with the wind than against it anyway)

cycle (stuff) 59:58 [3] 26.3 km (2:17 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Assorted commuting. Schoo to Professional development, back a couple of hours later, then home for dinner. Ended up being a bigger day than planned (had intended to come straight home from PD. Nothing like gently easing back into things.

Thursday Oct 11, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 17:00 [2] 7.65 km (2:13 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Another easy roll into school. I am a machine - doing something (vaguely) active 2 days in a row. Must be starting to return to normal health...

cycle (commute) 21:30 [2] 7.75 km (2:46 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Blob home into the wind

Wednesday Oct 10, 2007 #

cycle (commute) 15:15 [2] 7.65 km (2:00 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Felt well enough to cruise easily into work this morning. Faster than usual due to tailwind. Might try something slightly longer tomorrow...

cycle (commute) 19:50 [2] 7.8 km (2:33 / km)
shoes: Avanti Blade

Gentle spin home. Pretty low gear to keep it easy into the breeze.

core stability 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: barefoot

Wow - what a huge day...
After looking for ages I finally found the sheet that lists the core exercises that I haven't done for about a month. Did them all, but not very much of a couple and not much control on a couple of others. Would love a refresher on how to do them properly...

And all this after doing about 2 hours worth of work in a whole day in at school. How dedicated am I? (rhetorical question, don't bother commenting)

Note
(sick)

Yup. Again. Had a couple of god days. Started feeling a bit off last night and now I've got that lovely swollen throat / headcold feeling once again. Just in time to back to work on Monday... (to catch up on te 4 days I missed at the end of last term)

Wednesday Oct 3, 2007 #

cycle 2:19:12 [3] 60.0 km (2:19 / km)

Distance pretty approximate.
Rode from my home to be up tp Quinns, where I'll be working next year and return to get an idea of what the best way to go is and how long it is going to take. A bit slower than I'd hoped. I'm not used to allowing for traffic and lights, even though the majority of the ride is on bike paths without many interruptions. Add this to taking one wrong turn, riding a very slow section of bike path one way, being on an unfamiliar mountain bike and not having trained for a couple of weeks (and going both ways, rather than hammering one way then doing a day's work) and it was roughly 70 minutes each way, rather than the 1 hour I'd been hoping for.
I'm sure the trip there will be around 65 mniutes pretty routinely once it's a regular ride...

Note

Still coughing a fair bit, but otherwise feeling pretty normal, so decided to get out and do something to see how the body coped rather than wasting away my entire holidays. Glad I did. Not too many hassles with coughing fits and lack of fitness was just general rather than illness related. Legs had really had enough after an hour and a half... May be suffering a bit tomorrow.
