Note

Crowd of 7 1/2 at training tonight.
Shanel, Kev, Ann, Ben, Luke, Alisha, Jo and Andre after he finally found us just as everyone else was finishing. Takes away some of the disappointment of still not being allowed to run on hills.
3 PM

run 29:06 [2] 6.0 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Adistar Salvation

Short run after school with the running club trying out the new shoes. Seem fine. Achilles felt great this morning, a little uncomfortable this afternoon, which was disappointing. Running does seem to be irritating it less though...
Hopefully will see improvement to the level where I don't notice it when I run and actually enjoy myself again some time soon.

Bike certainly stops a lot better now. Tempted to buy a new cluster and chain and see how much that improves things.

A few more changes than I was expecting while taping controls for MTBO Middle Champs. Things would be quite quick and easy from here if I new how to use Corpse to put courses onto maps. But I don't :(

run 23:00 [2] 4.3 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Lunarglide 2

Little shuffle with the kiddies after school to see how much damage I did by playing touch rugby for hte best part of an hour yesterday. Not quite as comfortable as last week, but better than expected.

3 PM

run 21:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Lunarglide 2

Jacko taped my feet again, then I went for a little jog. Definitely on the improve. 2 short runs a week and see what happens. Changes to orthotics to be made permanent, and new shoes on the way.
Yay.
Might even get enthusiastic enough to start 'training' again, mostly bike, in a silly attempt to get a little bit of fitness back before destroying myself on the rogaine.

run 25:05 [3] 5.6 km (4:29 / km)
shoes: Lunarglide 2

Managed to sneak in a short run between meetings this afternoon.

Was meant to be a slow shuffle to test out the achilles. Probably ran a bit too fast, as I was running with students and the 3 of us left several minutes after the rest of the group and I didn't feel like being alone at the back. AFte rabout 15 minutes, they slowed down a bit, so I ran through nearly the whole running group by the end.
Slight discomfort behind left ankle and on outside of right heel, quite low down, but a big improvement on last week. Ice packs on straight afterwards, so will be interesting to see how I pull up tomorrow.

Very pleased to get through the run, as I was a bit stiff and sore for no apparent reason this morning, and had to demo some high jump in the afternoon.

Will invest in some different shoes with a more solid heel cup as soon as I can check sizes and get organised for another internet order.

MTBO 5:03:48 [2] 34.7 km (8:45 / km) +1029m 7:37 / km
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Finished off the track grading @ Gungin. The downhill singletracks would have been a lot more fun if one of my rear brake pads hadn't fallen out somehow during the week. Very dicey with only front brakes. Might have stayed on the bike a bit more too. Several significant stacks today, but thankfully no serious damamge done.
Would have had time to check control locations too if I'd actually finished planning the courses, but haven't restarted since I moved the start location, so will have to return on another occasion before the race.

MTBO 1 [0] 0.0 km +112m null / km

Had 2 GPS's going for the end of the session, as one kept giving a low battery beep at me.

MTB (Mindarie mapping) 1:30:00 [1]
shoes: Diamondback Vectra Sport

Why can't all the light poles in Mindarie be unifrom in their numbering. Part of the map has some nice, clearly labelled poles, some of them have been painted over and have a little sliver plate stapled to them, some are painted and have no ID at all and some are painted and have reflective tape with a couple of handpainted numbers on. Gonna make it confusing for the kiddies...

Note

Went to see Jacko today. Funny how obvious it is why your achilles hurt when you see it on video. Emerged with modified orthotics and heel raises and permission to run next Thursday to see how much difference they make.

run warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.5 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Lunarglide 2

Did the warm-up and cooldown at my first Tooms-impersonating effort at coaching the running crew. 5 attendees tonight. Also tried a couple of short shuffles up the bottom part of the slope, but got increased discomfort on the second, so was sensible and stopped. Less uncomfortable than all but a couple of days just over a week ago (particularly last Monday) so will be interesting to see if there are any ill effects tomorrow.

Seem to have bitten off a bit more than planned when I volunteered for setting the Gungin MTBO event. Not only are there new single tracks to explore, but despite not intending to change the track grading, as I have never even ridden on a 4x2 map before, the gradings on the current map are so woeful that I am changing most of them, so figured I'd do my version of a 4x2 grading system and see how many complaints I get. As always, some of the tracks have obviously been there for ages and I don't know how they've not made it onto the version of the map I have, others are totally new. And there are hills. Lots of hills.

Pretty big day out considering I have spent a total of 4 hours on a bike this year before this morning. Bit tired now. Bum is sore. Only major stack of the day was an excursion over the handlebars in front of 3 spectators just before lunch.

Obviously lots of stop start with all the mapping side of things... still a big day. Gonna need another one just as big next weekend if I have any hope of an accurate map to set courses on.

On the plus side, have found a start location. Wasn't on the map, as it is new, but has a fair bit more parking space than the Dell and should be relatively easy to set reasonable courses in and out of it. No toilet though.

Finally back to twice in a day...

Same again. Achilles have been sore walking for much of the day, but felt better after the second set.

Didn't leave enough time to squeezt these in before the long drive to corss country carnival, so ahd to settle for just the afternoon. 10kg in pack. Felt pretty sore today. Disappointing to have pulled up so badly from a bike ride. May soon be reduced to paddling.

Same as usual, but now with 10kg in the pack... Didn't feel very different. I hope nobody took the first 5kg out...

Continuing the theme of adding random colours to my log...

Was meant to head out around Mindarie and finish my metrO map, but the showers were still coming htrough, so bailed on that idea and headed over to Yaberoo-Budjara trail. Rode it from Quinns Rd to Burns Beach road and return. 47ish minutes of fairly hard work, with a bit of a bludge there and back.

If I ever had any bike handling skills, they are now long forgotten. Not helped by my lack of tyre tread and rear brake, but predominantly lack of skill on my part. Still good fun, although it felt like pretty hard work. Didn't feel my knee at all on the MTB.
