Run warm up/down (Pwll Du) 6:00 [2] 17.0 km (21 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340 II

Short warm up, legs not great

Orienteering race (Pwll Du) 43:57 [4] *** 5.65 km (7:47 / km) +250m 6:22 / km
spiked:19/20c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340 II

JK Day 4 - Mens Senior (120+) Relay - Pwll Du

Legs dead after yesterday but the mass start was fun and I tried to sit in the pack and take the shortest/flattest routes to keep position. This all went wrong at c6 where I misread a marsh as a pond and proceeded to climb one hill too far and take a while to work it out. Lost most of the packs and missed c7 a bit, then decided to ease off and cruise/enojoy the rest of the course rather than bust a gut to catch up. Legs actually felt better after ~4km.

Mistakes ~3:00 mins
(6)(2:30) - Misread pond/marsh and hills
(7)(0:30) - Poor exit from c6 in effort to catch up

JK Day 3 - M21E Classic WRE - Llangynidr

Similar area to day 2 but the weather was down, thick mist and rain. Had a terrible run. Not really sure why after yesterdays good run. The visibility was poor and perhaps I was a bit complacent, and careless with nav at times. Annoyed about c3 as I just switched off, not sure I could do much different about 4 & 10 apart from seeing that they were going to be a bit bingo. Would love to see GPS as I must have been close. After binning >10mins so early on, I lost confidence, fight and wasn't too bothered about the rest of the course. Physically I was ok, perhaps started a little fast but % behind w/o mistakes is actually not bad.

Mistakes ~15:30 mins
(1)(1:00) - Drifted right a bit high and had to reloc off path beyond control
(3)(3:30) - Massive undershoot on a hill too early, switched off mid-leg started looking too soon
(4)(1:30) - A bit low on the slope but the map/contours didn't make sense.
(10)(6:00) - Lost confidence in bearing mid leg, undershot, and tried to reloc off pits and ponds. Bad idea
(17)(0:30) - Misread contours - poor exit from C16
(22)(1:30) - On a good line, distracted too low by others
(28)(1:30) - Too keen to finish, switched off and overshot

Run warm up/down (Merthyr Common) 25:00 [2] 3.5 km (7:09 / km) +200m 5:33 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340 III

Warm up / warm up map / back to & from start to collect kit

Orienteering race (Merthyr Common) 37:41 [4] *** 6.7 km (5:37 / km) +130m 5:08 / km
spiked:20/24c shoes: Inov8 Flyroc 310 VII

JK Day 2 - M21E Middle WRE - Merthyr Common

Fast open area with lots of negative features. Tried to navigate by the positive features and bigger shapes. My bearings and distance judgement were pretty good today and when I missed I was often only 1 or 2 pits away, minimising errors compared to others. I caught a group of 3 M20Es who had a quite few shared controls, this helped keep the pace up and to hit a few controls. Physically I felt great and was pushing hard and paced it pretty well. Surprised and pleased with a top 20 result!

Mistakes ~1:30 mins
(5)(0:15) - Drifted left a little to a couple of smaller unmapped pits
(7)(0:30) - Slow and careful on dh leg but missed left and hit another pit/control. reloc.
(9)(0:30) - Misread hill and open areas and drifted right another pit/control. reloc.
(15)(0:15) - Drifted off bearing when contouring round hill

Pos: 17/72
Winner: H. Haines 29mins (+8:50mins +29%)

Run (The Mumbles) 23:25 [2] 3.43 km (6:50 / km) +40m 6:27 / km
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc 310 VII

Easy morning run with Ruth from the cottage

Run warm up/down (Singleton Park) 9:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc 310 VII

Orienteering - Urban race (Singleton Park) 16:51 [5] *** 3.0 km (5:37 / km) +65m 5:04 / km
spiked:22/23c shoes: Inov8 Flyroc 310 VII

JK Day 1 - M21E Sprint (with M20E & M18E) - Singleton Park (Swansea Uni)

Worked out first 2 legs seeing others start/CDs/blank maps then had a dodgy few legs where I wasn't quite thinking ahead and hesitating in the forested park. After 6 was really good and in control through the campus. Suprisingly didn't drop too many places in the open park running legs and from there it wasn't as hard as I had expected back to the finish.

Mistakes ~0:30 mins
(3,4,5)(0:10) - Hesitations often stopping to check map not reading ahead
(6)(0:10) - Slow c5 exit, round hedge I should have crossed, then reloc. in open
(19)(0:10) - Unecessary zig-zag route

Pos: 38/205 (22nd M21)
Winner: P. Hodkinson 14:01mins (+2:50mins +41%)
Actual Distance Run 3.65k (4.37m/km)

Run (HR Thames) 31:21 [2] 6.0 km (5:14 / km) +20m 5:08 / km
ahr:132 shoes: Inov8 Flyroc 310 VI

Easy run through the fields and back by the river. Some faster bits to stretch out the legs at the end. Feeling fresher now.
