Durand Sol-O; long advanced.

It was nice to have, for a change, a course that didn't go through mud, thick vegetation, or waist-high grass. :)

I had significant trouble with #10. I tried to attack it way too early. I saw a dot knoll but it wasn't the right one. Finally figured out where I needed to go and I found it.

The undergrowth in the 13-14-15 region (mapped as white) was annoying, because it was tough to even walk at a decent pace w/o getting tripped up. Other than that, as I mentioned, it was nice not having to fight vegetation. There were some very steep climbs that had to be done of course.

GPS said 1187 ft of climb but it was obvious looking at the trace that it had some bogus readings, like an elevation of 130 feet when going along Lakeshore Rd (when the elevation of the lake is around 245 feet). My Fitbit said I had 920 ft of climb which may be in the right ballpark.

Run/walk 19:45 [2] 2.01 mi (9:50 / mi) +3ft 9:49 / mi
shoes: Hoka M Clifton 5

Short run/walk this morning to assess my back's condition and willingness to run. I started off very gingerly but then took fewer walking breaks and ran a bit faster as I got into it. Back seemed OK. I'll see how it is later today.

Walking (Dog walk) 58:56 [1] 2.4 mi (24:32 / mi) +67ft 23:54 / mi
shoes: Hoka M Clifton 5

Usually I don't log dog walks, but because of some back issues, I haven't run much this week. Fortunately my back felt fine on this walk (it doesn't always), so hopefully it has gotten a lot better. I tried jogging for about 30 seconds and no issues with that either.

Hanna was able to swim three times.

Lower back still giving issues, but not as bad or as constant as yesterday. So I take that as positive. I managed to run 1.6 miles, about twice as far as I ran on Wednesday.

Started in Ellison Park, near the dog park, where Cheryl was with Hanna. Ran up Rich's Dugway to start, to get a decent hill workout in.

Running 8:50 [2] 0.86 mi (10:20 / mi) +6ft 10:16 / mi
shoes: Hoka Clifton 4

Aborted run. I had some significant lower back pain yesterday (Tuesday) for some unknown reason. It felt better this morning, but once I started running, the impact vibrations caused immediate discomfort. I hung in for not quite a mile hoping it would get better as I warmed up, but it didn't happen.

Running 30:37 [4] 3.25 mi (9:25 / mi) +1ft 9:24 / mi
shoes: Hoka M Clifton 5

From home. Warm and muggy; 78 degrees, 70 dew point. I managed 3+ miles with no walking breaks, which is unusual for me.

Running ("Long") 1:00:06 [3] 6.01 mi (10:00 / mi) +15ft 9:59 / mi
shoes: Hoka Clifton 4

Canal path, from Shoen Place heading east. Longest run I've done in a long time. Several walking breaks. GPS said 135 feet of climb which is preposterous. More like 10-15 feet. For some reason, there is often but not always a perturbation in the elevation when I take walking breaks.

Running 31:25 [3] 3.1 mi (10:08 / mi) +110ft 9:48 / mi

HJ trail and some roads (to avoid the unpleasant gravel area between Van Alstyne and Klem).

Running 36:13 [3] 3.51 mi (10:19 / mi) +171ft 9:51 / mi
shoes: Salomon XA Kuban

Gosnell field. Three loops around plus a bit more to get it up to 3.5 miles. It's a deceptively tough loop, at least for me. A fairly steep downhill early in the loop followed by what seems to be a long continuous uphill slog, not real steep for the most part, but never ending.

Running 46:04 [3] 4.65 mi (9:54 / mi) +328ft 9:17 / mi
shoes: Hoka M Clifton 5

In and around Cobb's Hill Park, with trailsnail. Lots of other people out walking, running, playing tennis and basketball, and participating in outdoor exercise classes. Good to see. (Except maybe the basketball -- rather high risk from the COVID standpoint.)

Lots of opportunities for hill climbing.

Walking 1:20:50 [1] 2.49 mi (32:28 / mi) +117ft 31:05 / mi
ahr:81 max:114 shoes: Salomon XA Kuban

Dog walk with Hanna and Cheryl, at 4 Mile Creek. Not terribly humid but it got a lot hotter than we were expecting. Hanna got to take two dips in the creek.
