Walking (Dog walk) 45:29 [1] 2.25 mi (20:13 / mi) +8ft 20:09 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

Urban walk, with Hanna. Checking out some more potential control points. Forgot to stop GPS until I had driven a short distance, but also I walked approx the same distance at the beginning before it got acquired satellites, so I'm calling it even ...

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2] 1.6 mi (56:15 / mi) +2ft 56:11 / mi

Pickleball, at Laguna Niguel (near Cheryl's sister's house). Started GPS about halfway through. Some fun games but not awesome, it was a bit windy for one thing, which we northerners aren't used to in the fall/winter/spring since we usually play exclusively indoors. I played OK at times, sub-standard other times. Not too too many people there -- 8 courts, all courts full, but only 2-4 people waiting, most of the time.

Walking 1:26:05 [2] 4.48 mi (19:12 / mi) +597ft 17:03 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

Walk, with Cheryl, Andrea, and Brian, from Cheryl's sister's Kay's house in Laguna Niguel. Most of the distance and time was spent on dirt trails more or less along a ridge between Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano. There were lots of ups and downs, which led to some whining by one of the foursome. Estimated stoppage times, to take in the views, take some pictures, and allow for some rest to reduce the whining, were deducted from the total.

Run/Walk -- 2:00 run / 0:30 walk. Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA; along the Ocean Walk path. Lots of people out, for 7:30 am on a Sunday.

Running 13:28 [3] 1.4 mi (9:36 / mi) +54ft 9:16 / mi

San Diego, Pacific Beach area. From our condo. The nice thing about not being in any kind of shape is that it doesn't take me long to feel like I've had a significant workout (even though I haven't) ...

Pickleball 45:00 [3]

Indoors, at the Pacific Beach Recreation Center in San Diego. Three courts, lots of people (10 people sitting out most of the time), but everyone was quite competent. Lost my first game (losers play one game then they're back in line), waited in line, won my next two, but I had lots of help, first victory was with probably the best male player there (young kid), and 2nd victory was with probably the best female player there.

Walking (Dog walk) 50:00 [1] 2.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

HJ trail with the dogs.
4 PM

Running 16:25 [2] 1.71 mi (9:35 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

Almost double the distance of my last run, although still short and slow, but it's progress.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [3]

Half hour of open play, then I was asked to sub on court 2 in the 8 pm ladder league session.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:08:09 [1] 3.27 mi (20:52 / mi) +6ft 20:50 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

Dog walk with Hanna, doing some more course setting for the RMA.

It was a gorgeous day, and there were tons of people out enjoying it. I'm not sure I've ever seen quite so many people on Park Avenue and surrounding streets.

Walking (Dog walk) 48:09 [1] 2.68 mi (17:59 / mi) +15ft 17:54 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

Walk with Hanna (Cheryl took Homer on a separate slower and shorter walk, since he seemed to be in a "dogging it" mood today). Over to Finn Park, and around the field.
3 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Rec Center. Quite a few competitive games (although many consisted of unbalanced teams -- a good player and a weaker player on each team). Pretty much everyone there was reasonably competent though, so all games were enjoyable.

12 PM

Pickleball 1:40:00 [2]

Pickleball at Casey Park. Only 5 of us -- Zach, Michelle, Paula, Cheryl, and I. Everyone was reasonably competent (with Zach extremely competent) so we had enjoyable games, with very minimal sitting out.

Tuesday Apr 12, 2016 #

Walking 1:40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Several walks, estimated total distance. No GPS carried, but my Fitbit says I've walked 7.65 miles so far today. Some of that isn't worthy of being logged but I suspect 5 miles is a conservative estimate of the total amount of semi serious walking.

1. Walk around the Corn Hill area.
2. Walk around the Swillburg area.
3. Dog walk around 1 pm, around 1.2 miles.
4. Dog walk around 4:30 pm, around 2 miles.

Pickleball 30:00 [1]

Bayview YMCA. I certainly won't be rushing back here to play! Actually I'll give it another try or two but I don't think this will make it on my list of great places to play. For two reasons -- lots of people there; 3 courts, 23 people present, which is almost exactly as many people waiting to play as are playing. Second, the level of play for the most part is pretty weak. There were a few reasonably competent people there (between Cheryl's level and my level), but the chances of getting into a good game, when there are maybe 5 players out of 23 who could provide a good game, are pretty slim.

A number of people did remark that this was the most crowded it's ever been (which is partly our fault, as Cheryl and I were there today, and we never have come before), so possibly it is usually a better experience than it was today.
4 PM

Running 8:15 [2] 0.81 mi (10:11 / mi) +3ft 10:09 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Kahana 7

First run in ages; even though it was very short and very slow, it was still nice to get out. Have been out of action for a while due to sciatica (which is what my upper leg/hip problems turned out to be), and a badly sprained ankle. Fortunately, the sprained ankle happened and more or less recovered (still not totally, at least in that it still looks a bit swollen compared to the other) while the sciatica was still going on, so the injury recoveries were in parallel rather than in series.

Brand new shoes, too.
