9 AM

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Casey Park, indoors. Not a bad group (weaker than Webster Rec center usually has, but better than normal for Casey Park). Cheryl came also.
1 PM

Walking 53:12 [1] 2.69 mi (19:48 / mi) +6ft 19:46 / mi
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Sunny, upper 30's.

Running 25:28 [3] 2.81 mi (9:04 / mi) +74ft 8:51 / mi
shoes: Hoka Mafate Speed

Short run on the HJ trail, with Hanna.

11 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 1:21:04 [1] 4.27 mi (19:00 / mi) +1ft 19:00 / mi
shoes: Merrell hiking boots

Fairly unpleasant day, upper 30's, drizzle, but at least no significant wind.
2 PM

Pickleball 2:20:00 [3]

Webster Rec Center. More manageable crowd than last week -- something like 6-8 people at the most sitting out at any one time. Level of most players was solid intermediate to advanced, so there were lots of good games.

Running race 56:55 [4] 6.23 mi (9:08 / mi) +122ft 8:58 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Race with Grace. Woefully undertrained, as I think I've run maybe 9 miles in the last month. Ran it with trailsnail. We were both pretty happy with how things went. We ran a reasonably constant pace (not totally constant, because there were some mild hills and fairly strong winds that caused the pace to vary from mile to mile), and didn't take any walking breaks.

I found myself almost right behind Delyn at the 6-mile mark, and was hoping to stay with him and finish right behind him, but he kicked it in more than I was able to, and finished maybe 20 yards and 10 places ahead of me.

The time I reported, 56:55, is from the start line to the finish line. My official time is about 25 seconds longer, as that's how long it took to get to the starting line.

The course is certified, and my GPS agreed almost exactly with each mile marker. But it said I covered 6.23 miles rather than 6.21 miles, which, if accurate, would say that the distance between the 6 mile marker and the finish line was off by 0.02 miles, in a distance of only 0.21 miles, which doesn't seem right. So I don't know whether I actually ran 6.21 miles or 6.23 miles -- not that it matters, except it does affect the average pace very slightly.
12 PM

Note

Results are up. I finished 9th out of 21 in my age group; 537th out of 1121 overall. Tyler was 6 seconds and 13 places ahead of me! Lots of people finishing in that time frame.

Trailsnail finished 27 seconds after I did, and was 9th in her age group, out of of 35, not bad! Well into the top third of her age group.

Pickleball 3:00:00 [2]

Casey Park courts, with Cheryl, Debbie S., trailsnail, Michelle, and a number of others. Better quality / more fun games than usual for Casey Park, because of the presence of enough competent players.
3 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 40:00 [1] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Around the big block.

10 AM

Walking (Dog walk) 1:15:29 [1] 3.94 mi (19:11 / mi) +5ft 19:10 / mi
shoes: Merrell hiking boots

Longer then usual dog walk, because it was a nippy day so it seemed like that should give the dogs more energy -- and in fact, they didn't seem all that tuckered at the end.
2 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [3]

There was a bumper crop of players today; 16 waiting in line at one time, with 24 playing. Still, that meant more playing than waiting, and all of the games I got into were competitive and enjoyable.

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Casey Park, 5 of us -- Cheryl, I, Debbie S., Michelle, and Zach (Michelle's daughter's b/f, who comes from a tennis and ping pong background so he's picking up pickleball quite fast, plus he's about 25 years old which also helps ...). Lots of decent, and generally evenly matched, games.

Running 38:00 [2] 4.03 mi (9:26 / mi) +48ft 9:20 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Tried a 4 mile run to see if running the 10K Race with Grace on Thanksgiving was realistic or not ...

GPS was balky waking up, so I ran about a half mile before it decided it could record. (Half mile was added in along with estimated time.)

Running warm up/down 2:27 [1] 0.25 mi (9:41 / mi) +1ft 9:39 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Short, slow cooldown run.

Over to Finn Park and back.
2 PM

Pickleball 1:15:00 [3]

Rec Center. Fair number of people there, plus we had to leave a bit early, so I didn't get many games in (5 I think) but they were generally pretty good ones.
6 PM

Orienteering 31:12 [1] * 0.92 mi (33:54 / mi) +96ft 30:51 / mi
shoes: Merrell hiking boots

White course at the Webster Park Night-O with 6-year-old Fred. He didn't do quite as well as he had done at the Cobb's Hill meet, in terms of understanding the map and contributing to the navigation, but I suppose that might go with it being dark out. Also, soon after the 4th control, he pronounced night-O as being a bit "scary".

The major upside is that Rhuksana's 9-year old daughter was in the lodge playing video games, so Fred spent about 5 minutes before going out, and another 20 minutes or so after we finished the course, hanging around with her, watching her, and a few times actually playing one of the games. Very nice of her to entertain him.

Monday Nov 9, 2015 #

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Casey Park. Better level of play than usual, mainly because the reasonably competent foursome I was in (Cheryl, Michelle, this guy about my age who said he hadn't played in a while but was reasonably good) rudely refused to mix with lesser players ... actually it wasn't quite that bad, it's just that there were 3 full courts playing and no one sitting out, and whenever we finished a game, the other two courts had games going.
12 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 44:11 [3] 2.26 mi (19:33 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Excursion TR8 2015

Dog walk, to Finn Park and back. My GPS has once again started refusing to talk to my computer. I'll try a reset of the GPS and see if that helps.

Sunday Nov 8, 2015 #

12 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [2]

Rec Center. Nine people their, not a bad number, but games ranged from enjoyable, to marginally fun, to not all that enjoyable ... All in all, I'm glad I went, but during one game, I was questioning that decision.
3 PM

Walking (Dog walk) 37:13 [1] 1.8 mi (20:40 / mi) +1ft 20:40 / mi

Pickleball 2:15:00 [3]

Rec Center, Sat. drop in play. Second outing with the new paddle. First couple of games were rocky, then it seemed like I was improving a bit.

Pickleball 2:00:00 [2]

Rec Center, indoors. Received a new paddle in the mail so I tried it out. A bit rocky at the start but I began to get the hang of it towards the end.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:12:24 [1] 3.43 mi (21:05 / mi) +3ft 21:04 / mi

2 PM

Running 20:22 [3] 1.9 mi (10:43 / mi) +71ft 10:21 / mi
shoes: Hoka Conquest

Gosnell Field, with trailsnail.

When AP scrutinized my GPS trace, it guessed that my activity was "walking". Rather humbling. We weren't speedy today, but we weren't going THAT slowly, I didn't think ...

Pickleball 1:15:00 [1]

Some low-effort pickleball at the Ontario Community Center courts.

Walking (Dog walk) 31:42 [1] 1.5 mi (21:08 / mi) +209ft 18:40 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Contend 2 April 2015

Walk with Cheryl and the dogs, at Lincoln Park, mainly to check out the major construction happening in the park on the bay (where the boat dock is).

Edit: Wow, I just glanced at the totally fouled up GPS trace! It had us starting on the other side of the bay. The total distance does seem approximately correct, though, amazingly.
