Walking (Dog walk) 45:43 [1] 2.24 mi (20:25 / mi) +7ft 20:22 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

To Finn Park. Bushwhacked from Maple back to Woodland on the return trip, which is always fairly slow going (some thick-ish vegetation which means a straight line route isn't realistic, plus trudging through the bit of snow that's on the ground, maybe 3 inches).

Walking (Dog walk) 1:15:00 [1] 3.35 mi (22:23 / mi) +50ft 22:05 / mi
shoes: Hiking boots

Walk on the canal from Shoen Place, with Cheryl, Andrea, Brian, and Anjana.

Neglected to stop my watch when we were done walking.

Walking (Dog walk) 44:00 [1] 2.42 mi (18:11 / mi) +9ft 18:07 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Still cold (around 30) but not much wind, so not a bad day for a walk.

Walking (Dog walk) 42:35 [1] 2.39 mi (17:48 / mi) +8ft 17:45 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Late morning walk with Homer. Mid 30's but quite windy. Fortunately I had dressed reasonably well for the wind chill of around 20 rather than the actual temperature of 34 or so, so I survived OK.
2 PM

Pickleball 1:30:00 [3]

At the Rec Center. We had 6 courts, all full, with maybe 6-8 people waiting at the peak time.

Wrapped my ankle reasonably well and I think it held up OK with just a touch of bother by the time I quit.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:06:21 [1] 3.85 mi (17:14 / mi) +62ft 16:58 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Walk with Homer on a cloudy day with a little misty rain at the end, but all in all, not too bad. Headed north on Maple, with a stop at the creek behind the United Church of Christ, which he declined to go in (or even drink from).

Walking (Dog walk) 55:00 [3] 3.08 mi (17:51 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Another walk with Homer after stopping at Home Depot. El Camino trail again, this time heading north. There's a short trail that goes from the rail-trail to Winona Blvd, where we used to live, ages ago. I took that trail and walked past our old house at 301 Winona. Then headed back, but not exactly the way we came up.

Forgot to bring the GPS. The route:

Pickleball 50:00 [3]

Tried playing pickleball for the first time in a bit more than a week. Wrapped up my ankle with Ace-type elastic wrapping material. Possibly that helped my ankle escape further aggravation, or possibly playing only 50 minutes helped, or a combination. Anyway, my ankle didn't bother me while playing or right after playing. Feels very slightly worse for wear at the moment.

Walking (Dog walk) 30:45 [1] 1.87 mi (16:27 / mi) +7ft 16:23 / mi

Around the "big block" with Homer. Ankle felt a few tweaks but generally was OK.

I wanted to look at a couple of things at Home Depot, and Homer was due for a walk, so I combined them into one trip. Stopped at Home Depot in Irondequoit, then drove to Hollenbeck and Ridge, parked, and we did a walk on the (relatively new) El Camino rail-trail in the city. Walked as far as Clifford, then worked our way back on city streets.

Certainly a different "look and feel" than the E and SE parts of town where I frequently do walks. I can't say I ever felt unsafe, but I was certainly more aware of my surroundings (things like, hmmm not sure if that's a street I want to walk down, so I won't turn here) with an eye out for anything that would suggest I was getting into an unsafe situation.

My ankle felt OK the whole time; used an elastic ankle wrapping thing, possibly that helped. Or maybe (hopefully) it's just getting better.

Walking (Dog walk) 57:04 [1] 3.06 mi (18:39 / mi) +5ft 18:37 / mi

Orienteering 2:06:53 [1] 5.63 mi (22:33 / mi) +189ft 21:51 / mi
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Night-O at Webster Park. Green course. Did very badly. Slight excuse was a sore ankle (I'm speculating it is mildly sprained; walking bothers it some, pickleball bothers it more; need to rest it more than I have been). Main reason was sub-par route choices in a few cases, and very sub-par execution in some other cases. And generally slow movement (didn't run even a step) throughout. I was 3rd out of 3 finishers when I left.

Walking (Dog walk) 8:37 [1] 0.5 mi (17:10 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Dog walk -- interrupted when I ran into a couple, both of whom I've known for like forever and who live off of Maple, but we rarely see. So we chatted for a bit, long enough for the low-end FR 10 to decide to terminate and save this part of the walk, rather than allowing me to just continue on when we were done talking.

Walking (Dog walk) 42:49 [1] 2.49 mi (17:11 / mi) +29ft 16:59 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Continuation of dog walk.

Running (Treadmill) 10:00 [1] 0.83 mi (12:00 / mi)

Very very easy treadmill run at the Rec Center, as a bit of a warmup for pickleball.
10 AM

Pickleball 1:25:00 [3]

Pickleball at the Rec Center. Played one game with "A" level players (Doug S. and I against Kevin and Mark Y.), then around 4-5 games with fellow "B" level players. All games were reasonably enjoyable.

Walking (Dog walk) 1:12:31 [1] 4.34 mi (16:43 / mi) +92ft 16:23 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Venture 3

Hojack Trail walk with Homer and Hershey. Except for a few places, the trail provided reasonable shelter from the wind.

10 AM

Pickleball 45:00 [2]

Webster Rec Center. There wasn't a quorum of non-"A-level" players, so trailsnail and I played some half-court singles then practiced some overheads. Then we watched the four A-level players (Doug S., Kevin, Mike S., and Pam) for a few games -- very impressive level of play.

Walking (Dog walk) 57:42 [1] 3.13 mi (18:26 / mi) +55ft 18:08 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ghost 5

Urban dog walk, with Homer and with Hershey, who we're watching this week. A side purpose of the walk was to check out a couple of possible starting locations for next year's Rochester Map Adventure, assuming we decide to hold it again.
5 PM

Strength 30:00 [3]

The usual fitness room workout at the Rec Center, focusing on legs.

I've started, every once in a while, adding in "planks", getting the idea from PG's log, where he and others could hold the plank position for something like 5 minutes or more. Tonight, I made it all the way to 25 seconds ... guess I have a ways to go.

Pickleball 1:00:00 [4]

Rec Center. Only an hour of play but rather intense. I was in the foursome of Doug S., Kevin, and Mark Yaeger, the director of the Webster Rec Center. He is relatively new to the game but has certainly learned fast. I would say I was the worst player of the foursome, with Mark being a bit better than me and then Kevin and Doug being notch about Mark. I lost 3 games out of the 4 that I played, in spite of being up 10-2 in one of the games and eventually losing 14-12.

3 PM

Running (Dog walk) 28:37 [3] 3.0 mi (9:31 / mi) +56ft 9:21 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Venture 3

First continuous run in ages! With trailsnail and Homer. I'll see how my knee feels tomorrow ...

Despite being not quite 40 degrees, Homer went for a swim in the creek (an actual swim, not just wading).
8 PM

Pickleball 55:00 [4]

Pickleball ladder league, subbing for someone who had a broken finger. Good games; the foursome was Joann, Bill H., Dick Seils, and me. I won two games, and lost the game I played when Bill was my partner.
