Day 2. For 5 controls my map reading was sharp helped by the fact that I was walking. Then lost concentration on #6. Major calamity. Never found the flag despite using three different attackpoints, Spent far too much time entangled in the thick vegetation. I became dehydrated and knew I needed to walk back in.

Willard Brook State Park. Day 1 NRE set by J-J. Took my time and ended up navigating well. A few early bobbles. Pushed through the rocky, steep, thick section of the course and miraculously ran into each control flag. Not much running.

After spending yesterday visiting family. (Ron & Bonnie and Dan & Reenie), Leslie & I stopped overnight Providence. This was a first time for both of us. Brown U has been Leslie’s dream college but she ended up staying closer to home at UCSB. We walked through the center of town and then over the river to the Brown campus. Very charming. What a beautiful place to study.

Drove to N, Mass for the model event at Willard Brook SP. Together we saw the potential perils of this think and rocky terrain. I dropped the keys of the car we had borrowed from Charlie at a trail junction. Distressed we ran into Charlie and Rhonda and Charlie found them on the ground. Disaster averted.

Charlie set a course for us on his Ratlum Man map. It was quite fun. Much was learned. It seems that one thing that was lost in these 18 month away from O is the concentration. On #2 I became overconfident and went merrily down the wrong trail without checking the direction. Did the same thing later in the course.
