orienteer race 1:34:00 [4] *** 5.8 km (16:12 / km)

Team Trials at Hawn. I was by myself today, which meant it was harder to push myself to keep jogging. Plus, this was the third day in a row of competition, which is pretty tough on my body right now.

Navigation was OK; one bobble on #3; one big, ten-minute mistake on #6. I stopped concentrating along the way, thought I had relocated on a fence, wandered a bit along the stream to the east, finally relocated, found the control and moved on. Bummer to have had that first mental lapse, but I managed to admit I had to relocate, and was able to put the mistake out of my mind to finish the course cleanly (although slowly).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the weekend. I can see some improvement in my speed through the woods, and my fitness. Still need to work on the map reading, as always. But three decent days in a row; I'll take that.

Great weekend all around, in terms of courses, weather, company. One glaring exception: no Lisa. Otherwise, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

orienteer race 44:00 [4] *** 3.6 km (12:13 / km)

Team Trial at S - F. One of my fastest (min/k) woods runs ever. I started in the middle of the pack, and lots of faster runners passed me. I decided to try to keep up with them as long as I could. Due to the flat terrain, and my recent training, I was able to go relatively fast. I was with other green runners for about half the course.

In addition, my navigation was pretty clean. One small bobble on #5 (drifted down the hill) and some temporary confusion on the trail near 11, but that's it. So, overall I was pretty pleased today.

Sprint at UMSL. I did OK whenever I was reading the map. I had watched the Team Trials runners first, and thought I knew exactly how to get through the controls around the train tracks. So I put away my map and kept jogging. Just as I was approaching the train underpass, I saw a control out of the corner of my eye. I almost ran right past #5! That will teach me to assume anything...

I managed to jog a lot of the course. My legs got tired towards the end, especially on all the stairs. Overall, I was pleased with my run. I don't think the HR reflects my effort; 10 bpm must be due to the heat.
