I have training to report!
Started 8:15 or 8:30 this morning at Boojum. Walked to my traditional start north side of Shriner's Pond. With David, Jeremy, Susan, Dylan, Sawyer and Harriet. Asked for a 4-minute head start and set off at a fast pace.
Last night I found 7 unused maps of a 6-control white course I set at Boojum. I also found other maps - 3 at 1:2,500 and the other 3 at 1:10,000.
At each control I left an envelope containing a map showing a nearby location off trail. At that location I hung a baggie containing 6 donut holes (3 glazed chocolate and 3 powdered sugar).
The Symingtons are a funny family. They are completely fun, but 4 out of 5 of them are terminally quiet. They have a cynical-and-sweet sense of humor together, and when they are just with each other the outside world tends to provide plenty of material for it. Fortunately I get a window on this from Susan, who is not quiet.
At dinner the second night I kind of got self-conscious about the fact that only Susan and I had been talking, leaving five people *completely* silent. So, I said, so, let's do the thing where we each share something about ourselves that no one else knows. No one said anything. For a long time. Not even anything not related to my question. It was like being with vampires or something.
Now I don't think I have made it clear that I am completely in love with the entire Symington family, both together and separately. I roll on the floor at the stuff Susan tells me.
I have a big sign on my front door saying "Please Knock." Sawyer (or Dylan) (14-year-old twins) got to it first the other night. He peered at the sign and said slowly as though he were reading it aloud, "Symingtons, go away!"
It will be fun to do a rogaine with Susan. She is interested.
