Orienteering race 52:41 [4] *** 4.8 km (10:59 / km)

green @ kentucky camp

Orienteering race 2:28:00 [3] 9.5 km (15:35 / km)

blue

Note

F45 was a tight race: 15 minutes difference between the slowest and fastest of 7 women over 2 days. I was impressed by Deb Humiston, who seems particularly speedy these days.

I was glad to meet Margaret from San Francisco, who was also doing blue. Nice to have company.

Melissa:

One of the Tucson Jeffs. I tend to get their names mixed up, but I think this is Brodsky. In the background is Mark Parsons' party BBQ pit.

Cristina's friend um what's his name - Joe? He lives a couple blocks away from us in Cambridge, but we met in Tucson.

Note

Not well timed, but here's a photo of Tucsonians Mike, Christine (not sure if I spelled that right), and Peg at a nice vegetarian restaurant in Tucson. Mike & Christine are going to Estonia for the rogaine in September. Peg has correctly pointed out to me that the rogaine committee probably should have done more to try and get US teams signed up for that rogaine.

Orienteering race 4:10:00 [4]

1:06 on green. 2:40 or so on vblue. :30 on sprint. lots of friends & a couple relatives.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Time is a guess. SUPER fun course in a Tucson park, where the saguaro cacti were mapped and very useful to triangulate off of on the run. Running was sweet, soft but resistant ground and low bushy stuff to jump over and prickly stuff to avoid. Lots of friends were there!

What I learned today and yesterday was to try and find points on the landscape (like the saguaros) that I can use similarly... Also yesterday got the idea that I want to make sure and estimate distance, and use the compass - sometimes going straight and checking off features while knowing the distance should work pretty well. And as usual, the more climb I avoid the better, which of course is at odds with going straight. Anyway, I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

Walking in the woods 30:00 [1]

Trail-O. I was determined to be careful and deliberate. I used the compass more than I have in the past, often taking multiple bearings. And I did the distance estimation, and matched as many features as I could. It turned out pretty well. 2 wrong. 1 of those I knew was wrong as I walked further down the path. The other one, I think I missed seeing one of the controls, and mistook one of the controls from the next (timed) control for one of mine. This seemed much less "random" than other times I've tried; more things made sense.

Bicycling 1:00:00 [2]

To Leif's house and back. Lots of steep hills, as I was cutting across the foothills. Got off and pushed the bike up a few of them. Leif and I programmed the controls for the A meet, and I took possession of a bunch of epunches and the master clock control. I feel all powerful.

Bicycling 2:30:00 [3]

into tucson & back out under a full moon
