Note

Deb and I walked to a bus stop on the edge of the old town, meeting GrantM on his morning run, and then caught an early bus up to the TV broadcast tower on the big hill north of Pecs. Went up to the viewing platform and nearly got blown off by the strong northerly. We then walked back down the hill through the forest and the outlying houses and back to the Uni to relax before the sprint qualifier later today.

Orienteering race (WMOC Sprint Qualifier) 19:22 [5] *** 2.3 km (8:25 / km) +90m 7:03 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 12

Pretty happy with my run, with the only errors caused by failing to correctly read the map detail in the more complex parts of the map. First 2 controls dead easy with straight street running but lost about 25 seconds on #3 when I didn't see a gate in a high fence and then another 15 seconds on #8 when I missed a passageway. Lack of leg strength due to injury plagued build up meant my time was relatively slow but finished 23rd in Heat 3 so achieved my first goal of making the A final.

Deb did brilliantly in her heat, placing 5th as did GrantM in Heat 2 of my class. Jimbo won heat 1 which was a great effort.

Quite a few other Aussies in the A finals including MaryMac, Blair, Susan and Jenny Casanova, Liggo, Anne Ingwersen, Ted van Geldermalsen and Ross Barr that I know of.

Morning run in Pecs. Just did a loop around the Uni accommodation. Quite hilly but felt comfortable enough to do a short extra loop at the end to bring up 6km.

Orienteering (Sprint Model) 35:00 [1]

Walked around the Sprint model looking at the mapping and features. The area is supposed to be similar to the Final area and, having walked around the old town, won't have much in common with the qualifier tomorrow. Fairly straight forward control placements which makes me wonder what the finals will be like.

Afternoon run with Deb along the Danube in Budapest. Arrived at around 12:30pm after leaving Bangkok at 12:15 am the previous morning. About 15 hours flying time via Heathrow.

Just a steady jog to try and loosen up a few tight muscles from so much sitting in cramped plane seats. Temperature and humidity also a big change coming out of a Wagga winter.

Note
(rest day)

If can call a walking tour of Bangkok a rest day, well that's what we did today! All "templed" out plus the mandatory Tuk Tuk scam! Otherwise a good day with a few Chang beers to wash it down!

Off to River Kwai tomorrow followed by a midnight flight to London and on to Budapest by midday Thursday!!
