Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] **** 7.3 km (9:35 / km) +175m 8:34 / km
spiked:13/16c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Training course out at Burngoogee with Briohny. Tried to concentrate on being really accurate with the compass and running bearings and wasn't really looking to run too hard. Happy overall with navigation with just a few little hesitations around the control sites. Garmin distance was 8.5km.

Very very wet out in the forest. Hard to believe its the same forest as the NSW Champs last year!

Orienteering (Sprint training) 20:02 [4] ** 3.3 km (6:04 / km) +50m 5:39 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

A sprint course set by Briohny on Willans Hill after work. Distance is by Garmin, straight line 2.8km. First go at Orienteering in 5 weeks so concentrated on map reading and navigation. Pretty happy, just a few small errors in the bush section, hitting the track a bit early on 6 and a fence too far left on 8. Poor route choice to 14 meant climbing 2 fences!

Good fun run and a nice warm up for tomorrow when we are heading out to Burngoogee for a long training run.

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Spent about an hour riding around our neighbourhood, selecting control points for this Sunday's street score event. Logged 25 minutes as that's about all I actually rode for. Rest was noting map corrections and control details.

Running 27:00 [3] 4.8 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Slow recovery run from home out to the Boat Club and return. Quads very tight today. So glad the Half was yesterday as there was a strong southerly wind today and it dropped the temperature by what felt like 10 degrees!

Very lucky weather-wise yesterday for the event, as it started to rain at about 2 pm and drizzled all afternoon and half the night, then another 10mm this morning. Some parts of the course near the Start/Finish that were dry yesterday were under water this afternoon!

Running race (Wagga Trail Half Marathon) 1:49:16 [5] 21.1 km (5:11 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Great conditions for running and a good course, especially as the organisers had to change so much at the last minute due to the wet weather, including moving the start-finish location by about 10 kms and altering the half and full events into out-and-back runs!

Started quite quickly (for me), keeping under 5 min kms for the first 4 kms until the hills slowed me a bit. Wasn't anywhere near as muddy as I had expected with only a small stretch before the turnaround point. Managed to work my way past quite a few other runners on the way back but almost blew it with a wrong turn at about the 15km mark. Thanks to the lady I had just passed for calling out to me:-)

Hammy started to really tighten up on the big downhill and then along the flat section back to the finish but pushed on and didn't let anyone pass me although had to really sprint the last 100m or so! More than 5 minutes quicker than last year on what was probably a physically harder course so well satisfied.

Great effort from a few well known Orienteers in the full marathon, with Grant Bluett winning at his first attempt at the distance in a time around 2:47 and Rob Walter taking 2nd place about 9 minutes back! Grant McDonald also completed his first marathon in about 3:45.
