Orienteering race (ACT Middle Distance) 45:15 [5] **** 4.4 km (10:17 / km) +190m 8:27 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

An improvement on yesterday but still managed 2 brain snaps during an otherwise good run, both probably cost me around 2 minutes. Hung on for 3rd place. I was happy with the way I navigated at speed through the middle of the course. I had caught Geoff T and GrantM had caught me but I still managed to run my own race until my stuff-up at 12 when they both got away on me.

Orienteering race (ACT Sprint Champs) 23:08 [5] * 2.5 km (9:15 / km)
spiked:9/13c shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

A pretty poor effort overall and surprised I finished as high as I did in 4th. Stupid errors at 2, 3, 6 and 11, all due to not reading the map. Good area and courses. Garmin distance was 3.3km, so I ran an extra 800m mainly through errors!

Running 31:20 [3] 6.0 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

Short afternoon run to try and loosen the legs up a bit. Down to the Boat Club and then along the Lake from past the Golf course and down to O'Halloran Park and back home. Started out quite cool but was very humid and I was dripping with sweat by the time I got home.

Orienteering race (Easter Day 3) 1:02:53 [5] **** 5.9 km (10:39 / km) +185m 9:13 / km
spiked:19/22c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 270

Left my worse run until last! Obvious track route to 1 but wasn't paying enough attention to the map and went past it by about 100m, losing probably 2 minutes. More problems at 5 where I ran too far west, almost to another flag. Only stopped and relocated when I saw there was water at that control. Still had trouble in the circle, again from not reading the map closely enough to see the boulder was at the southern end of the feature. Slow to get down the rockface to 6 and a little wayward on my route into 10.

After that I started to read the map a bit better but tightness (again) in my right hammy slowed me down a bit, especially up the hills. Major stack on the rocky ground between 18 and 19 resulted in a lot of blood from a cut on my elbow (thanks to Hilary for stopping to see if I was OK). Briohny wasn't too impressed when I handed her my bloodied compass and SI at the finish:-). St John soon patched me up.

Quite disappointed with my fine navigation today. Need to concentrate harder and read the map detail. 11th place today and 7th overall, one place lower than last year, so not too happy! Garmin distance 7.15km.

Orienteering race (Easter Day 2) 50:42 [5] *** 6.5 km (7:48 / km) +200m 6:46 / km
spiked:17/17c shoes: Helly Hansen Trailcutter

Probably as well as I have run since Day 2 at Easter last year! No real errors on the whole couse, just a slight hesitation coming in to 6 where the vegetation boundary didn't seem to fit. Trusted myself (for a change) and when straight in to the control. Not sure I had the best route choice to 10 as the left route may have had less climb. Otherwise all good. All that held me back was my lack of speed compared to the first 3 guys who all ran very well. 4th fastest on the day and remained 6th overall. Garmin distance was 7.1km.
