Note

Mapping - another snake encounter (Brown this time) - when are they going to hibernate?? Probably just after I finish mapping (hopefully) next month! Good day otherwise, covering a lot of ground.

Running 36:40 [3] 7.5 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 9

Afternoon run out to BBQ shed at Lake Albert via Boat Club and return. Felt surprisingly good on first run since Easter and having spent all day sitting down in a meeting. Pushed quite hard particularly on the way home as seemed to have plenty of energy. Only concern is return of right achilles soreness - didn't trouble me in Tassie - so will have to work harder on the stretches.

(rest day)

Drive home to Wagga after overnight Ferry trip Devonport to Melbourne. Ferry ride was was pretty standard, a few more bumps than coming over but finish was interesting. Ferry arrived about 10 minutes early at Port Melbourne and then spent an hour trying to dock! Westerly winds were so strong, the ship kept getting blown away from the dock. After 3 attempts they called in the tug boats and they brought us in safely!

Orienteering race 46:44 [5] *** 5.5 km (8:30 / km) +140m 7:32 / km

Easter 2009 Day 3: a slightly disappointing effort after yesterday. Small errors on 4 and 8 plus and a slightly larger mistake on 5 totalled about 3 minutes. Again struggled up the climbs but pushed hard on the downhills. 5th again today to maintain 6th place overall. Take away the 8 minutes from Day 1 and I am comfortably in 4th but that's without knowing what errors others have made:)

Clearly need to work on my strength up hills as this is where I am loosing time to the top competitors.

For the 3rd day straight, a basic course, a simple loop with limited route choice. Somewhat disappointing when I looked at the M55, W50 and W21E courses (other too?), which all had crossovers into the tin mining and more complex decision-making.

Orienteering race 58:49 [5] **** 6.4 km (9:11 / km) +240m 7:44 / km

Easter 2009 Day 2: a much better effort than yesterday; an almost clean run with just a small hesitation at #2 that probably cost me 30 seconds. Attacked the course where I could (flats and downhills!) but not strong enough on the climb to compete with the front runners. Happy with 5th place today and that lifted me to 6th overall.

Again the course was OK without a lot of imagination, again being a simple loop with little or no route choice.

On the way to the Start and then back to the car after the race to collect camera!
