Running 39:50 [3] 7.5 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

No excuses today: an afternoon run around the Lake. Very wet underfoot after last nights rain (23mm at home, 72 for the month which is great!) but enjoyable run. Almost dark by the time I got home.

Tuesday May 29, 2007 #

Note

Rest (keeping dry) day: had great plans and got away from work early for a run. However, a very large, angry and windy frontal system moved across town as I got home and dumped heaps of rain so I stayed indoors! Couple of glasses of red with dinner topped the day!

Monday May 28, 2007 #

Note

Rest day: went to a funeral during the afternoon so wasn't really in the frame of mind for running. Finished work far to late anyway.

Running 29:05 [4] 6.0 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Mid morning run at Rawlings Park with Deb (her idea, which is a first I think!) Pushed quite hard and time was good for me. Abused an idiot in a Mercedes who was driving along the cycle/walking track!

Saturday May 26, 2007 #

Running race 17:52 [4] 3.5 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Saturday Road Runners at the Uni: decided to just run the short as had to get away early. Surprised at how well I felt and was happy with the time considering it is quite a hilly course.

Running 55:10 [3] 10.0 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Early morning run - first in almost a week - with Briohny to Rawlings Park and return. Very cold morning (2C) but a good run.

Orienteering race 1:16:28 [4] ***** 5.6 km (13:39 / km)
shoes: Silva K80

Shorter course than yesterday but much tougher area - physical and technical. Started well and no errors through to 4. A bit vague on 5 and then OK through to 7. Trouble at 8 but I felt flag was on wrong feature (confirmed with a few fellow competitors) so lost about 3 minutes. Compounded by over-running 9 (another 2 minutes) but got the rest OK, except for the very last where I ran to the spectator control instead! 2nd place but in a somewhat smaller field than Saturday.

Orienteering race 55:13 [3] **** 5.7 km (9:41 / km) +160m 8:30 / km
spiked:16/21c shoes: Silva K80

Middle distance race. Got the first one easy but then stuffed 2. OK for the next few as we wound around a rocky knoll with lots of short legs. First long leg out of the rock came unstuck badly, then same on next - just poor map reading. Remainder OK but slow as I figured no point wasting energy as I was way down.

Note

Extended rest days! Was a bit sore after the half but really no time to get out and run. Sydney for meetings for 3 days, then another all day meeting in Narrandera today. Might be able to squeeze in a short run tomorrow arvo but that will be all ahead of the weekend's events. Call it tapering....

Running race 1:44:16 [4] 21.1 km (4:56 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Canberra Half Marathon - my first! Went in with a bit of a dodgy knee so had no great aspirations, hoping to do about 5min ks. Started a bit faster than I had planned, the pack mentality dragging me along and went through 5km in 24:10. Slowed it a bit and went through 10km in 48:40, 15km in 73:40 and 20 in 98:50. Passed Bri going the other way at about 17km! The last few kms were pretty tough but just got home under the 5min/km mark. Expecting to be sore tomorrow!

Running 40:20 [3] 7.5 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Early morning run with Briohny around the Lake. A bit cool but run was good. Not too many out and about this morning.

Mad day at work today - meeting after meeting! Boss heading OS so I get to mind the fort for a few weeks (six!) which basically means more meetings and lots of travel! Might get to spend a bit of money as the end of year is coming up and he won't be back so I will probably have to run down the budget!

Thursday May 10, 2007 #

Running 59:30 [3] 11.5 km (5:10 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Very nice morning run through the River Red Gum forests at Echuca. A bit on the cool side but great conditions otherwise for running, still and clear. Knee felt really good so will probably be a starter for the Canberra Half on Sunday!

Sunday May 6, 2007 #

Running 1:11:45 [3] 13.0 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Mid morning run via the Lake, Redbank, Boiling Down and Plumpton Rds (opposite direction to normal run just for a change). Last chance for a longish run before Canberra Half next weekend. Again, time was slow but just concentrating on getting a few more kms in the legs and managing injuries!

Saturday May 5, 2007 #

Running race 40:31 [3] 8.4 km (4:49 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Road Runners at CSU winery. First time I have run here and quite a hilly course but a very enjoyable run in good conditions, although a bit humid. Home in time to watch the Mighty Hawks smash the Bombers!

Friday May 4, 2007 #

Running 39:10 [3] 7.5 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Morning (not early!) run around the Lake. First run in 6 days (see Notes for other exercise!). Not especially quick but knee felt good.

Note

Golf trip to Rich River at Moama Day 5: 18 holes. 120 holes in 5 days! All walking, no golf carts, so plenty of exercise. The big meals and a few beers may have been a bit counter-productive fitness-wise but it was a great week!
