Note

ACT Long Champs: walked to the start and back with Deb and then the same with Briohny. Then walked up for my start, collected my map and walked across to the Finish. Add in 2 trips back to the car, and all up I reckon I walked about 3km, a good warm up for tomorrow's Middle Distance!

Note

Another walk to round off my impressive training leading into Oceania (I will be walking there too, so it is relevant!). This time a brisk 30 min walk out into Deniliquin State Forest after a day of site meetings.

Deni will be the centre of the Ute universe this weekend as they hold the 9th Annual Ute Muster. This is a massive gathering of Utes (and drivers and hangers on) of all shapes and sizes. Last year they got a world record 6120 utes to the Muster and are hoping for more this year. Generally an excuse for drinking and partying but they also lots of retail outlets selling Utes extras, clothes, and just about everything else. A couple of bigname acts including the Hoodoo Gurus.

Note

45 minutes brisk walk along the bike path adjoining the new freeway in Albury. Looks like it would be a good place to run. Will hopefully be able to try it out in a couple of months!

Cycling 45:00 [3]

Cruised around on a few tracks - some not quite as distinct (read completely vanished) as shown on the 1989 map - at Burngoogee with Deb. Good fun cycling on a great spring day. Blackberries a major concern in some areas.

Earlier, whilst Deb ran a shortish course, I did a quick reconnoitre on foot of a possible extention to the map. Some nice granite outcrops, with some good gullies in open, privately owned land to the west. See if we can get permission.....

Cycling 31:00 [3] 9.0 km (3:27 / km)

Afternoon ride out to Rowan Rd and back through Springdale. Gusty head wind going out but OK coming back.

Ortho surgeon yesterday. As expected, need a knee scrape. Bad news is I have to wait until 9th November! Looks like lots of cycling and golfing but no running for the next couple of months.

Orienteering 58:00 [2] *** 3.9 km (14:52 / km)
spiked:11/11c shoes: Asics 2100s

Walked the Orange course at the Interclub on the Wolfram map at Burrandana. First time I have competed on an Orange course (except QBIII Relays) for many years (and I won even though I walked the whole course!). My first Orienteering event since NSW Champs. Hope to be travelling a bit quicker at the next local event, not so sure about Oceania, probably be a spectator! Great day in the forest.

Swimming 20:00 [3] 0.45 km (44:27 / km)

Briohny dragged me down to the Oasis Swimming Centre (my first visit since it was opened about 4 years ago). Managed to complete 18 x 25m very slow and messy laps, combination of freestyle (with very little style), breast stroke and splashing-about-excuse for backstroke. Good exercise I guess but I need to improve.

My busiest exercise week in a long time!

Cycling 58:00 [3] 20.5 km (2:50 / km)

Rode to and from Road Runners at San Isa Dore - but still no running - out via Red Hill, Glenfield, Fernleigh Rds, through Ashmont and onto the Sturt Hwy; back via Hwy and then into Silverlite Reserve and under the not yet finished or open Railway underpass on the west end of Red Hill Rd and back home. Strong head wind on the way out but much better coming home. HRM clitch as I peeked at an impressive 224 on one hill but then settled back down to a more normal rate in the low 120s.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Exercise bike again. Had planned on going out on the MTB but a gusty change came through in the arvo and I was too slack to fight the wind! Borrowed Bri's iPod which made the time past a bit quicker.

Cycling 20:00 [3]

First chance to test out the new exercise bike purchased on the weekend. Not too bad although the seat appears a bit "upright". Must get some music for any longer sessions. Should be good for post knee-op recovery, late home from work days and also for rainy days (if there is still such a thing)

Cycling 30:00 [3] 10.5 km (2:51 / km)

Rode out to San Isa Dore to Road Runners. Nice ride, but shorter than I had anticipated. Didn't run but had a good laugh with the day organiser's about the Chaser and George Wya's efforts during APEC (or is that OPEC?)

Cycling 36:00 [3] 10.5 km (3:26 / km)

Afternoon cycle out to Rawlings Park. Must be a slow learner as I forgot about the "friendly" Magpie from last week and he had a go at me again!

My excuse was that I was watching a very clever Border Collie. This dog was one of 2 that a lady was throwing sticks into a small pond for them to fetch. The other dog was a brown bitsa. On one throw the stick landed on the far side of the pond. The bitsa dived in and swam right across but the clever Collie worked out it was quicker to run around the pond and then dive in and easily won the race! Must admit I have a soft spot for Collies as we used to have one before we got serious about Orienteering, which meant we were never home - not fair on the dog, so we ended up giving her away. Close to the hardest thing I ever had to do :(
