Cycling race 27:00 [3] 7.8 km (3:28 / km)

A bit faster ride (than earlier in the week) around Lake Albert. Knee felt pretty good but iced it after the ride anyway.

Intensive physio session this morning but not making much progress with the knee. Physio starting to talk about seeing the surgeon! Will have to wait for a few more weeks before that happens.

30 minute walk around the neighbourhood this afternoon to at least get some exercise in.

And late home from work!

Cycling 22:00 [3] 5.0 km (4:24 / km)

Short easy cycle after work on new Lake cycle track - in a meeting all day so needed to do something other than sit, talk and eat!

Monday Jun 25, 2007 #

Note

Evening walk with the family was about the only exercise I got today. Final prep and sent Oz Champs maps to the printers.

Saturday Jun 23, 2007 #

Cycling 39:00 [3] 10.0 km (3:54 / km)

Ride over to Road Runners to watch the rest of the family run, including Cam - home from Uni - then back via the new path around the lake in front of the golf club. Too much loose gravel and thus a bit scary on the bike at the moment but should be OK with a bit more use.

Knee felt pretty good, working hard on the exercises and stretches.

Physio this morning. Pretty good progress and a few more exercises. Will be able to get out on the bike but no running for a while yet.

Knee pretty useless after weekend in Dubbo. No running for me this week I think. Back to the physio Thursday.

Note

Back again and finished off all I needed to do. Late trip back to Wagga. Knee very tender!

Note

Day 2 of putting out stands for Ozzies. Didn't get as many done as I hoped even staying until dark so will be here for a while tomorrow. Driving out of the forest at night was a first, very wary of wildlife but didn't see anything.

Friday Jun 15, 2007 #

Note

Dubbo putting out Oz Champs controls. Late start so will be a long day Saturday! What a difference a bit of rain makes! Water in the creeks, green grass, forest looks great!

Just caught the Hawks - Carlton score...go the mighty Hawks!!!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Finally got to the physio this morning. Confirmed my suspicions that I have a medial strain in left knee. Ice and strengthening exercises. Will be hard work at Dubbo over next few days putting out controls for Ozzies.

Orienteering race 33:07 [3] *** 4.0 km (8:17 / km)
spiked:5/6c shoes: Silva K80

QBIII Relays with team Davey. Ran 1st leg and was a bit slow but safe. Deb ran 2nd leg and Briohny 3rd and we "snuck" home by a mere 56 minutes over second place! Probably should have run a more competitive class but it was fun. Lot of pain in left knee after I cooled down so might be headed for the physio and a spell.

Orienteering race 59:49 [4] *** 7.6 km (7:52 / km) +310m 6:32 / km
spiked:16/17c shoes: Silva K80

QBIII Day 2: best run of the year, with the possible exception of Easter Day 3 in a tougher field. Caught Mel (day 1 leader) at 5 (4 mins) and we basically raced together the rest of the course, neither making any errors. I am sure if he wasn't there, I wouldn't have run as hard. Ended up winning day and overall. Very satisfying.

Orienteering race 44:08 [3] **** 3.5 km (12:37 / km) +140m 10:30 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: Silva K80

QBIII day 1. A very bad start, missed 1 by about 4 mins, then settled into a good run through the rock until 9. It was hiding in the green and missed it by what must have been a few metres! Scratched round for a couple of minutes and Bingo! there it was. Unhappy, but ended up only 2 minutes down in 3rd.

Running intervals 22:00 [4] 4.0 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Intervals session on Nelson Drive (aka Boat Club Rd). Decided it was time for a bit of strength work. Only a gradual incline but enough to make you work a bit harder. Ran 8 x 1 minute repeats (well about 1 minute as I couldn't read the display on my borrowed watch) at a bit faster than my normal (slow) race pace and then jogged back down the hill.

Orienteering race 1:05:50 [3] **** 6.6 km (9:58 / km)
spiked:5/8c shoes: Silva K80

Waggaroos-Albury Interclub #2 at Burngoogee. A really nice run in the forest after the rain. A bit slow to the first couple then hit 3 OK and a bit high on 4 in the rocks. Got 5 and then unfolded my map... where is 6? Instead of a 2.0km leg to 6 I had just 600m and in the wrong direction!

At these events we mark our maps pre start time. I had put mine down briefly and then must have picked up the map of someone doing the short course (same first 5 controls so didn't twig earlier)! So... I ran the last 3 legs from memory. Got them all OK but was a bit slow trying to remember where I had drawn the circles. Good map memory exercise I guess.

A wild storm (mini cyclone or something like that) had ripped through the map just before #6, snapping fully grown stringybarks like twigs and ripping others out of the ground. Glad I wasn't around when it happened. Went back later and took some photos: will try and work out how to post them here.

I think this is how it works:

Running warm up/down 24:30 [3] 5.0 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Decided I needed a longer run than Road Runners today so ran to the start at Rawlings Park from home, about 5kms. Didn't quite time it right and had to wait about 10 minutes before Roadies started and got a bit cold.

Running race 43:12 [4] 9.0 km (4:48 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Road Runners at Rawlings Park: new course slightly longer than last year and perhaps a bit more hilly. I was a bit cold at the start (see Warm up) and it took me a couple of kms to warm up again. Once I got going I felt really good and was able to run a pretty reasonable time for me.
