Note

Golf today. Course very wet after morning storm dumped about 25mm but can't use that as an excuse for playing REALLY bad!.

Tuesday Feb 27, 2007 #

Note

Rest day (injured). Still battling achilles trouble in right leg , stretches and icing.

Monday Feb 26, 2007 #

Running 40:00 [3] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Monday night intervals at Jubilee but track still closed. Another good session with Mark, working on technique and doing some sprint resistance runs using mini parachutes and a harness, then some stretches, plus warm up and warm down laps.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] **** 3.5 km (17:09 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Placing controls for Training weekend race in Beechworth Gorge. Super humid conditions this morning after yesterday's heavy rain. Had to make a few changes as selected sites not ideal for level of experience of some of our members.

Orienteering 30 [3] **** 3.0 km (10 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Collecting controls in the Gorge after this morning's final training weekend activity. Easy when you know where they all are! Back to the Uni for a welcome shower and lunch before headng home.

Overall a very enjoyable weekend. Great location and good maps, good company and some positive outcomes especially for our newer folk.

Accommodation very good (on campus at La Trobe and on the Sprint/Night O map), apart from the fire system that went off at 2:00am!

Orienteering 50:00 [3] **** 4.0 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Placing controls for club training session at Beechworth Gorge and then shadwing/assisting (waliking) a couple of our newer members on a control picking exercise.

Orienteering 25 [2] 2.0 km (13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Placing controls for tomorrow morning's training exercise at Beechworth.

Orienteering race (Night O) 15 [3] * 2.0 km (8 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Traditional Club Training weekend Night O, set this year by Briohny. 2 km course around La Trobe Beechworth campus (venue and map for Galaxy Sprint 2003 but without the benefit of sunlight!), Anchored somewhat by BBQ dinner and several beers, red wine, etc but good fun event!

Note

Injured: resting Achilles as it has flared up badly. Getting stuck into the eccentric stretches and icing to try and settle it down ahead of the Club Training weekend at Beechworth this weekend.

Running 39:20 [3] 7.5 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Really needed a run after 2 days of sitting down at meetings and in the car! Round the Lake and it rained steadily the whole way which was really quite enjoyable - haven't run in the rain for so long! Achilles very tender however so have started icing and eccentric stretches and may need to rest from tomorrow's Street O event.

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Went to intervals with Briohny but, due to track vandalism, Mark put the group through some sprint and technique drills, then some dynamic and static stretches, plus warm up and warm down laps of Jubilee. Quite an enjoyable session.

Orienteering (Control site checking) 3:00:00 [2] ****
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Out to Connorton to check some of the control tagging for our Badge event next month. Spent about 3 hours on careful navigation in the rock and slow jogging between sites. Also noted a few map corrections. Missed my long run this morning but was probably good to give my sore achilles a bit of an easy day.

Saturday Feb 17, 2007 #

Running race (Road Runners) 26:40 [3] 5.6 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Roadies at The Wagga Beach. A bit hotter than last week, obviously explains why I was all of 1 second slower! I suppose I'm consistent, but thought I would be faster after a much better start. Found the 2nd half of the course really hard however and pace came back down. Should be easy to work out my handicap for next week!

Thursday Feb 15, 2007 #

Orienteering race 44:20 [3] * 8.2 km (5:24 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Thursday evening Street event. Managed to get one up on Briohny, 200-195 pts! Did the hills first, then tried to get as many of the high scores. Not bad conditions for running, with a big storm threatening, but has not yet delivered any rain 2 hours later!

Wednesday Feb 14, 2007 #

Golf (cross-training!) 3:45:00 [2] 6.0 km (37:30 / km)
shoes: Proline

Back on the course again after a 3 week absence. Generally hit the ball well but missed too many fairways to post a decent score. Still managed 36 pts so played to my handicap despite 2 shockers. Birdie on 3 helped.

Tuesday Feb 13, 2007 #

Running intervals 39:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:34 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

8 minute warm up run to Boat Club Rd, then ran a series of 1:30 intervals at 3/4 pace with 2-3 minutes slow jog recovery, around end of the Lake and back. 6 repeats in all then 10 minute warm down jog back home.

Sunday Feb 11, 2007 #

Running long 1:22:21 [3] 15.0 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

Morning long run. Started very slowly as legs were tight from last night's Roadies, but soon settled into a rhythm. Obviously need to stretch a bit more after a run. Out and back to Plumpton Hill. Nice easterly (side) breeze kept things cool.

Saturday Feb 10, 2007 #

Running race (Road Runners) 26:39 [3] 5.6 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 8

First Road Runners event for me for the year. 6:00pm start in Feb is a blessing but it was still hot. So was the pace, but finished in the first ten. Pretty happy with the time given I have done mostly long, slow training and very little racing or speed work over Summer.

Friday Feb 9, 2007 #

Cycling 25:00 [2] 6.5 km (3:51 / km)

Rode back into work to pick up the car. Must get my seat fixed!

Thursday Feb 8, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Street O) 43:30 [3] * 8.0 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100s

Street O from our driveway!! (Deb set, not me) Nice run on a not too hot evening but a bit on the slow side. Forgot to start my watch so didn't know for sure when to come back. Ended up 1.5 mins early so might have been able to get that last 20 pointer.

Wednesday Feb 7, 2007 #

Running 37:00 [3] 6.5 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Short morning run in Dubbo. Up here for work for a change, not Oz Champs! Think I had one beer to many watching the cricket last night, as I felt pretty ordinary, despite lots of water. Nice cool start to what was another very hot day however.

Sunday Feb 4, 2007 #

Orienteering 1:03:15 [3] **** 7.4 km (8:33 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave Trail

Morning training run, Connorton granite map. Slow start, tired legs after a long day field checking new area yesterday. Silly parallax error on long leg turned good route choice into shocker! Glad to get out early as in ended up 40C today.

Thursday Feb 1, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Street O) 44:15 [3] * 7.5 km (5:54 / km)
shoes: Asics 2100s

First Street event for 2007. Good roll up (for Wagga), most of the regulars plus a couple of Road Runners. Some slightly inaccurate circles lead to a couple of instances of standing and scratching the head! First time I have run down the main street and through a shopping centre. Some funny looks, esp as it was late night shopping, but good fun! Altogether a nice run. 180 points, 2nd behind Bri (200)
