Orienteering (Field Checking) 2:41:41 [1] 3.81 mi (42:26 / mi) +78m 39:55 / mi
slept:7.5 weight:199.5lbs (injured)

Germantown Soccerplex and Hoyles Mill Conservation Park, MD. After a month of preparing the basemap, I have finally started on some field checking. If it's safe enough to hold it, I aim to have a summer training event here in the soccerplex. The soccerplex includes 24 soccer fields, 4 baseball fieldsd, an indoor pool, tennis and basketball courts, a golf driving range, and various playgrounds. The adjacent park is a much, much larger wooded area with few trails and interesting looking contours. I knew the forest to not be very open. On my outing, I founds some bad woods at the edges of the large fields, but progressively better and more terrain. The areas I'd map white are not blazing fast, but sufficiently open to run. There were smaller bushes in them but better yet, I found an extensive boulder field. I took most of the time trying to map that. I finished up with more trail work and checking in the socceplex. In the soccerplex, I had used good imagery and LiDAR to pick out the vegetation. I found that some of that had changed. Trees that had been standing in some places were removed. People were walking about on the trails a lot but were staying socially distant.

Hiking (Street & Trail) 34:17 [3] 2.3 mi (14:54 / mi) +52m 13:55 / mi
(injured)

From Northfield Rd., to Jefferson St., to Garfield St., to Sonoma Rd., to Oneida La., through trails in Ayrlawn Park, to Lindale Dr., to to Bradmore Dr., to Roosevelt St, to Irvington Ave., to Huntington Pkwy., to Northfield Rd. After work was over, I did a fast walk before watching a movie with Samantha. Walking fast like this hurts my ankles and shins. I guess I'm not used to it. The lower leg work is good and I have a hard time imagining walking faster, even though I'd race walked a mile in 9 minutes before and maybe faster. Seeing the trails in Ayrlawn Park was nice again. I'd not been there in years. Even though it's a very small area, it's got quite a network. I'd also forgot that it had so many boulders.

Hiking (Street & Trail) 32:52 [3] 2.18 mi (15:05 / mi) +32m 14:25 / mi
weight:201lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., to Moorland Ln. to Overhill Rd., to Hampden Ln. to Wilson Ln., to Maiden Rd., to Kirby Rd., to Granada Dr., to Wilson Ln., to Aberdeen Rd./Aberdeen Pl., to Huntington Pkwy., to Charlcote Rd., to Northfield Rd. I walked this quickly. Unfortunately, I needed a bathroom for over the last half of the way. This was in the dark so I was getting a little disoriented on the roads that I hadn't been down before. It all worked out okay.

I went to Norfolk Ave. to get lunch and then rushed back to eat and get back to work. I was there in about 3:45 minutes! There was a tailwind but going back was about the same, going uphill and into the breeze.

Bicycling (Road) 58:44 [3] 15.35 mi (3:50 / mi) +174m 3:42 / mi
slept:7.5 weight:196lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., Custer Rd. to Maple Ridge Rd. to the Bethesda Trolley Trail to Jones Bridge Rd., to Beach Dr. to Blagden Rd., to Ridge Rd., to Military Rd., to 27th St., NW/Utah Dr., NW, to Western Ave., to Summerfield Rd., to Oxford St., to Brookeville Rd., to Bradley Blvd., to Wisconsin Ave., to Woodmont Ave., to Bethesda Ave., to Exeter Rd., to Battery Ln. to Custer Rd., to Northfield Rd., I kept thinking it was about to rain today. The rain never came here so finally, after a late in the day check, I just went out. It was nice, in the 60s F. I didn't feel very strong but I kept a good, comfortable pace. There were a lot of other cyclists and runners out (especially in Rock Creek Park), but not so many cars.
