Orienteering (Course Setting) 3:40:17 [2] 9.5 km (23:11 / km)
spiked:31/31c

Seneca State Park, MD. From Riffleford Rd., I streamered controls in areas that I had mapped early in 2014. There were things that I had missed and other things that I needed to fix. This took me more time but it should help. I found some more rock, rootstocks and beaver activity. The woods were pretty good but some bushes had leaves sprouting already. I kept moving when I wasn't tying streamers or updating the map.

Bicycling (Commute) 40:30 [3] 12.1 mi (3:21 / mi)
slept:4.7 weight:194.5lbs

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. It was in the mid 60s F this morning with some slight headwinds. I hadn't ridden all the way to work since December 21st. I definitely felt being out of shape. I tried to pace myself and tried keeping to my pace. I caught and rode about the same speed as another guy for a while before slowly letting him go. Taking my time on the ride may have saved me a speeding ticket. near Dalecarlia, two officers (one on a motorcycle), had pulled-over 2 cyclist and were writing them tickets for speeding. On Water Street in Georgetown, another officer seemed to be waiting to do the same though he might also have been waiting for cars. I've seen officers in other intersections on Water Street focusing on cyclists running stop signs before (the road is generally not very busy in the morning).

Bicycling (Commute) 41:30 [3] 11.9 mi (3:29 / mi)

From 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C., to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. Winds were mixed but perhaps behind me on the stretch into Bethesda. I moved better than expected but slowed from around the water treatment plant. I kept expecting other cyclists to pass me, but I kept passing others and none passed me. I started to cramp after a traffic light stop on Bradley Blvd. but it went away.

Event: QOC Wheaton

12 PM

Orienteering (Foot) 1:02:58 [4] *** 6.3 km (10:00 / km) +120m 9:08 / km
spiked:14/20c slept:8.5 weight:194lbs

QOC: Wheaton Regional Park, MD. I felt better running today than the day before but it was still pretty slow. I was okay for most of the course but had some minor errors on a few controls (#4, #8, #10, #12), and a larger error on #14. Some of my routes may not have been that optimal either. A few of the errors came about by me cutting off of a trail too early. One (#12) was just starting out on a poor bearing. I'd done the re-mapping of this park and at times, I just lost where I was; such as in the #8 and #10 area. I had trouble reading the trails at times and that was probably because they were too thin or I didn't slow down enough to read them. I could tell when I was really running out of energy after the climb to #12. I got to thinking poorly leaving #13 and at a trail intersection, I needed to pause to figure out which trail needed on the way to #14. It was a fairly nice day with temperatures in the upper 40s or low 50s F. I'm glad that I got to run and hope I can do more training now that the weather is better and I'm past a few things that had been making it difficult to train!
