Hiking (Trail) 1:20:00 [1] 3.7 mi (21:37 / mi)
slept:5.0 (injured)
Loch An Eilien near Aviemore, Scotland, UK. Peggy, the kids and I got our first activity done on this trip apart from traveling and eating. It was nice given how stressed the last few days were before we left. Even the traveling had unexpected things go on such as forgetting to bring our nice electrical converters, buying an expensive one at the airport, and finding out that a cheap plastic part broke iquicly, thus rendering it useless. Samantha lost a jacket and we had to buy a new one. Not the worst was finding out that my rental car company wouldn't accept my regular car insurance. Worst was Peggy, Samantha, and I being woken up by my phone ringing--someone answered in Spanish in what sounded like a canned sales pitch. I hung up almost immediately but the damage was done. Samantha wouldn't get back to sleep till after 3:15M. Being on the top bunk, 2 flying bugs were crawling on the ceiling which was about 10 feet high. Samantha kept freaking out with bursts of crying when seeing them. I eventually killed both bugs and that got her to sleep. About all I could think of while this was happening was how tired and cranky she'd be the next morning. For a whole new day of stress.
As Peggy said in her log, the hike started about as bad with Samantha refusing to walk. We got past that and were able to enjoy the scenery. A lot of families were hiking too. Many were even biking including one mother pushing her kid around on a bike with training wheels. I hadn't known the route could be bicycled. Most of the way we went around was on the main gravel trail but unsure at the beginning, we hugged the shore on informal trails for a while and they were pretty. The way reminded us of orienteering.
I did feel weak at times in my right leg, and some pain in the back and in my right foot at times. Mostly however, I held up we'll.
