Running (Treadmill) 14:18 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (4:18 @4)
slept:8.5

Bloominton, MN. With just a little time before Peggy's brother Paul took me to a Minnesota Wild hockey game, I got it a brief run in our hotel. According to the distance gauge I covered 2 miles. I ramped up somewhat slowly but the last mile was at under a 7 minute pace if the treadmill can be trusted. The Wild beat St. Louis but the game was close to the end.

Event: Joyful 5K

Running (Street & Trail) 24:20 intensity: (3:00 @1) + (16:20 @2) + (5:00 @3) 1.53 mi (15:54 / mi)
slept:6.5

Joyful Christmas Day Run, Como Lake, St. Paul, MN. We had hoped that Peggy's brother Paul would make it to the race but he had a lot to do. Since Peggy took Max around the lake last year and I ran the 10K in the Bethesda Turkey Chase, it was my turn to watch after him while Peggy ran. Max remembered the cold from last year when it was in the single digits and didn't want to run this year. It was much warmer, just around 30 F. We started with the group getting there with just enough time this year. I got Max going by by playing along in a snowball fight chase but that didn't interest him for long. We walked a bit and he felt discouraged. I was surprised that he took-up my offer to carry him on my shoulders. We started passing other walkers quickly. For a little while, he started letting out sequential screams of pain and it took me a while to figure out that big but somewhat icy snowflakes were hitting his face. Getting around a corner in the lake helped with the wind alignment but after a while he wanted down again for a little while. Others passed us again he got up on my shoulders again. Eventually Max said he felt like such a loser--big emotions about a race from one so young. I started shuffling along on the snowy trail passing others much more quickly and that abated him for the last half mile to the end. I was happy to get in some kind of workout and the shuffling along with +40 pounds on my shoulders did get me up to a slight sweat. Christmas celebrations in our hotel and later with Peggy's family ensued afterward.

Swimming (General) 20:00 [1]

Splashing about in a pool in Bloomington, MN with Max. Max was desperately trying to swim but didn't want to get any help or coaching. I was glad to just get in some kind of workout. It was snowing heartily outside. With the snow at home and too much holiday business, I just hadn't had the time or the will the last few days.
