Looking at the tall grass on the lawn I weighed feeling better in my knee with some mild risk. I decided to take some Ibuprofen and mow. Having a self propelled and pacing mower really helped me get through it. I did it slowly and didn't bother trying to be overly neat in rough spots. Afterward, there was increased discomfort in the knee. I wondered if I'd overdone it but it was okay. My weight has been all over the place. I'm eating too many desserts and staying up too late drafting extensions for the Rock Creek Rockville map.

There was a marked improvement in the stability of my knee. It seemed to tighten in the right places. I still feel some surface pain and there's still some swelling.

Since we needed to get starting on packing up the house we took a trip downtown to my office. I had been collecting boxes there that I found in the halls and which otherwise would have been thrown out. Yesterday I didn't think I was walking well enough to do this since I knew there would be a lot of walking but by this morning, I felt stable enough to try. It's a long walk from the area I could park in, to my office and then there's extra waking involved to get visitor entry points for Peggy and Max. Peggy drove us down but I had to park the car in and underground lot while they walked outside to the vistor entrance. On my first step getting out of the car, I felt a little snap in my left calf--it was a muscle pull. I guess I had been walking weird enough the last two days to have stressed it and the cold from the van A/C tightened it up. It really hobbled me for a while but I had to get to the visitor entrance to meet up with Peggy and Max. Once there I was a little better able to move. It took an effort. I started sweating (it may have partially been due to the A/C being turned off on weekends). We were fortunate to find a hand truck in the halls which Peggy and Max used to haul the boxes to the car. For Max we headed outside (missing the afternoon rain) across the National Mall to the Natural History Museum. Outside, the warm humid air really helped my calf loosen. We took Max to see the insect exhibit. He ran out of energy and needed me to carry him. A snack helped recharge us all before our slow walk back.
