Running (Street & Trail) 1:01:39 [3] 7.25 mi (8:30 / mi)

Ken Gar Park, Rock Creek Park, MD. I got there late (8:05am) and without the club went northward on and along the Rock Creek Trail. Using the dirt side trails where available, I went to past the 10 mile mark and into the memorial gardens to the left. I felt a bit unsure if running was allowed there but I know people run through Arlington Cemetary so figured if I stayed on the road it would be okay--I saw no one. It was sunny, still below freezing and very pretty--like a golf course. Instead of rows and columns of graves, they were mostly in clusters. It would have been great for a sprint-O. Let alone the rock features, there were nice contours and tree groups. I wouldn't mind if someone hung a control on my grave stone; not that I'd have one. Oh well. Coming back I ran on the paved Rock Creek Trail and passed a group of marathon trainers. I next passed Leo, Bill and Paz who had gone north too. As I was finishing, I passed a race clock and a start line. Then I saw a sunshine silhouetted runner coming at me and recognized it before I could see the face--it was Tim Good rushing late to the start of the race. Splits returning on the Rock Creek Trail: 7:22 (hill), 7:03, 6:53.
Hiking 16:00 [1] 0.75 mi (21:20 / mi)
From Mark Twain School Park, Peggy and I walked over to the John G. Hayes Forest Preserve just west of Rock Creek Park near Rte. 28. I just wanted to see the the woods for usefulness training or for a Summer Short Series or even a local meet. They were very nice. We found some blazed trails and various point features along with knolls and stream valley.
