Running (Warm-up) 11:02 [2] 2.0 km (5:31 / km)
slept:7.0

In Cuyhoga Valley National Park, OH. From Camp Manatoc to the start of the N. American Championships.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:26:33 [4] 6.8 km (12:44 / km) +220m 10:57 / km

NEOOC N. American Championships in Cuyhoga Valley National Park, OH. It was a day of many bobbles. I did okay in the ridge and valley terrain but had the most trouble in the maze of rocks. I didn't understand that the gaps on the maps were exagerated so much and wandered around #7 for a long time.

Bicycling (Commute) 38:23 [3] 12.07 mi (3:11 / mi)
slept:7.0

From Rosedale Ave. in Bethesda, MD to C St. SW, in Washington D.C. The trail was wet, the air humid, I was soon wet and took it easy. Weight 172.

Bicycling (Commute) 45:15 [3] 11.87 mi (3:49 / mi)

From C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Rosedale Ave., Bethesda, cutting through the Bureau of Engraving alley. Lots of tourists out and about for the Memorial Day weekend.

Bicycling (Commute) 37:55 [3] 12.03 mi (3:09 / mi)
slept:7.0

From Rosedale Ave. in Bethesda, MD, to C St. SW, Washington, D.C. I left late. At the CCT, I saw the man with legs of girth from the previous week just pulling out ahead. I didn't want to push too hard so didn't bother trying to catch him. Though I was going a good pace, he pulled ahead quickly. Carl, an economist manager who reached the trail right behind me, owns I think 6 bikes, came the long way from Tacoma Park and was riding his fixed gear, dropped-in behind me. We chatted while weaving around the pedestrians and other cyclists and still keeping a good pace. I pulled mostly because w/his fixed gear, doing about 22 was all he could manage. We split after Georgetown. A slight tailwind along the water made for a enjoyable ride in. Weight 170.5.

Bicycling (Commute) 40:42 [3] 11.32 mi (3:36 / mi)

From Independence Ave. SW, Washington D.C. to Rosedale Ave., Bethesda, MD. Leaving at twilight, I saw the flash bulbs at the WWII memorial go off and barricades everywhere for the anticipated large crowds this weekend. On the trail I caught another guy and not wanting to push we rode together chatting. He was a reporter who had recently found his faith and upon learning my name quickly went to questions/discussion about religion. Dark on the damp trail by the time we split at MacArthur, I cruised into the party atmosphere in Bethesda.

Bicycling (Commute) 41:11 [4] 11.87 mi (3:28 / mi)
slept:5.5

From C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Rosedale Ave., Bethesda, cutting through the Bureau of Engraving alley. I left my bike at work overnight to avoid the storms so only had to go one-way today to the new home. Slight headwinds until the CCT kept the pace down. Trees blocked it on the trail. I caught someone after a mile and pulled him the rest of the way to Bethesda climbing at mostly at 18mph. I would have been 37:25 to the apartment. Riding on the sidewalk on the one-way Woodmont Ave. slows it down too. Weight 171.5.

Bicycling (Commute) 34:07 [4] 11.21 mi (3:03 / mi)

From Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, MD to C St. SW, Washington, D.C. It was a cool morning. A first I just tried to spin and not push too hard. Perhaps there were headwinds going downhill that became tailwinds because my pace was only ~22mph going down and 21mph on the flat. By the time I got to Georgetown, there was a definite tailwind all the way to the Tidal Basin. Weight 172.5.

Bicycling (Commute) 43:15 [3] 12.92 mi (3:21 / mi)
slept:5.5

From Woodmont Ave. to Rosedale Ave. to C St. SW, Washington, D.C. I rode to the new place in my sneakers to pickup my biking shoes before going to work. I moved well getting to Georgetown but stiff winds off the water were slow. Weight 174.5.

Bicycling (Commute) 38:23 [3] 10.81 mi (3:33 / mi)

From C. St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Bethesda Ave. in Bethesda, MD. Stiff winds off the water kept the speed down until the water treatment plant, whereupon I had some tailwind. I stopped short to meet Peggy.

Bicycling (Road) 58:30 [2] 10.25 mi (5:42 / mi)

On this supposed rest day in which we moved our belongings from storage into (mostly) our new little house, Peggy and I took a break to randomly tour the neighborhoods mostly between Bradley Rd. and Wisconsin Rd. We also finally checked out the nice little trail skirting NIH and found it to be 0.95 miles between Jones Mill Rd. and Old Georgetown Rd. Weight 173.
