Orienteering (Training) 1:31:37 [3] 8.21 km (11:10 / km) +325m 9:19 / km
spiked:14/16c slept:7.5

In Prince William Forest, I ran the Day 1 Red Y course from the 2002 US Individual Orienteering Champs. Dave Pruden had suggested Quantico members gather for training. Peggy had the maps from the course she set. I didn't feel very strong and didn't push. I was a little sketchy on #3 similar to what happened to me on the Red X course that I ran in 2002. On the way to #6, I took my time finding a good creek crossing and managed to stay dry. On #8 I went way around to avoid hills. It was not a good choice because it turned out to be much greener than I thought. I went right past two gravesites. I was also a bit unsure which reentrant the control was in but the rest went smoothly. Even #10 went well which on the Red X course last time, I had played it safe by going way around. Splits: 6:09, 6:27, 4:33, 6:22, 6:57, 8:11, 4:06, 11:30, 5:24, 7:52, 2:40, 3:53, 4:56, 6:29, 3:54, 1:33, 0:34.

Bicycling (Commute) 45:10 [3] 11.5 mi (3:56 / mi)

From Quill Point Dr. to Fletchertown Rd. to Highbridge Rd. to Duckettown Rd. to Springfield Rd. Beaverdam Rd. to Research Rd. to the Greenbelt Town Center. Off today, I rode to the Greenbelt Post Office to drop-off a package. It felt slow going into the wind and carrying a change of clothes, etc... I weighed-in today at 168.

Bicycling (Commute) 16:49 [3] 4.7 mi (3:35 / mi)

From the Greenbelt Post Office, Crescent Way to Edmonston Rd. to Powder Mill Rd. to Rte. 1. I rode to the MVA where I waited in long lines most of the day thus missing lunch... This leg was flatter and more with the wind.

Bicycling (Commute) 22:00 [3] 5.15 mi (4:16 / mi)

From Rte. 1 (MVA) in Beltsville, MD. to Ammendale Rd. to Gunpowder Rd. to Briggs Chaney Rd. to Automobile Dr. Leaving at dusk, it was dark by the time I got to the car dealer to pickup my repaired car. This leg was hilly (mostly uphill) and not fun without my headlamp in rush-hour traffic. At least I had my rear light.

Running (Street & Trail) 43:30 [3] 6.17 mi (7:03 / mi)

From Quill Point Dr. in Bowie, to the WBA Trail via Quetzal Rd. and High Bridge Rd., to Bell Station Rd., to Prospect Hill Rd. to Quill Point Dr. I had a heavy lunch at my dad's birthday (skipped breakfast and dinner) and went out around 9:30pm. Quiet and calm in the mid-30's, I felt okay. My knee didn't hurt like yesterday. Half splits on the trail: 3:32, 3:30, 3:29 (somewhat uphill).

Weights (General) 12:00 [3]

25 pushups, 35 situps, upper-body dumbells.

From C St. SW DC: Memorial Tour: To the Jefferson Memorial, across the 14th St. Bridge to Memorial Bridge, to the Lincoln Memorial started down the Reflecting Pool, but contstruction forced me to Independence Ave. Calm winds but about 25F. I felt good the last mile and was ready to go for more but had to get to work.

Running (Indoor Track) 12:15 [3] 1.75 mi (7:00 / mi)

In Cole Field House, UMD, College Park, MD. The outdoor track was locked so I couldn't do the intervals I had planned. Peggy and I just got inside before they started locking doors. I could only warm-up this far before being kindly kicked-out. It's 1,001 ft. or 305m once around.

Bicycling (Resistance Trainer) 30:00 [3]

I finally got my bike setup on my new fluid trainer. I tired quickly but kept increasing speed for the full time. I sweat a lot. In October I had returned the rollers I had been lent.

Weights (General) 10:00 [3]

25 pushups, 35 situps and upper body dumbells.

Running (Street & Trail) 18:29 [3] 2.5 mi (7:24 / mi)

Running (Street & Trail) 1:33:05 [3] 12.47 mi (7:28 / mi)

From Little Falls Library in S. Bethesda, MD., up Massachusetts Ave. to Golsdsboro Rd. to MacArthur Blvd. to the C&O Canal Towpath via the connector trail just before the one-lane stone arch bridge, to Fletcher's Boathouse, up the Capital Crescent Trail to the Little Falls Trail, to River Rd. via Westbrook School, to the Capital Crescent Trail, to Massachusetts Ave. to Little Falls Library. Peggy and I started together after a little house hunting. I felt okay going up the big hill on Mass. Ave. and down to the towpath. I wasn't wearing sweats and as it cooled with the setting sun, I stiffened and slowed--especially on the gradual climb up the Crescent Trail. Some miles and halves on the trails: 7:10, 7:23, 3:47, 3:48, 7:36. Weighed-in this morning at 167.0.
