Orienteering (Competition) 1:24:10 [3] 6.74 km (12:29 / km) +250m 10:32 / km
spiked:7/13c

WCOC's Event in Kent, CT A-Meet. I made bad errors at #8 and #11. It was enjoyable running--I guess I was getting enough rest while staring at the map not to have felt tired much. See the split list.

Running (Street & Trail) 16:07 [3] 2.36 mi (6:50 / mi)

From Quill Point Dr., Quilt Patch Dr. to Fletchertown Rd. to Quetzal Dr. to Quillpoint Dr. Working late the last few nights along with some general laziness is bad for training. Working later tonight generated a little more motivation along with the cool fall air.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:10:54 [2] 5.0 km (14:11 / km)

In Fran Uhler/Patuxent River Park. Checking the southern section control locations I've found that the green is thicker and wetter than in the northern section for the same color on the map. I confused a trickle on the map for a full creek and had to rely on some newly, storm-created fallen log crossings to stay reasonably dry. I hope it dries-out by December like it did last year.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:43:33 [2] 5.3 km (19:32 / km)

In Fran Uhler Natural Area, Bowie, MD. I checked control locations for the central and southern parts of the park. Some parts that were originally field checked under snow really need re-mapping. I'll probably move control locations from my original plan. Other parts were fine with the exception of some areas with newly downed trees. Green areas in the southern part of the map are much worse than green areas in the northern part of the map. At least one new and probably illegal trail is being created by ATV riders. The wet summer effect on the park really can be understood best in the example of a route choice I tested--water was over my knees for a long way. Obviously, that's wasn't the best route.
