A long day in the woods. Out at 6am to finish off the hanging, turned on a few controls in Greno, sprinted out to replace a control that had gone walkabout and collected in a chunk of Wharncliffe, finishing at around 7.30 in the evening.
Mostly, it went very well, just very frustrated by the control stealing incident, which affected a few people on M21E - all I can say is thanks so much for your sportsmanship in the circumstances and I'm really sorry if it ruined your race. Thanks in particular to Eddie, who gave up his run to let us know, and Chris who found and replaced the control, potentially saving the race.
I'm impressed with the M21E winning times and I think that Doug ran a world class race to smash my predictions. Jenny and I had to fight for the courses to be as long as they were and right up until half way through the race we were being told that we had overcooked it. It was only M21E and W21E that went too fast. The problem is that all other courses are based on a ratio of course 1 - under the current system if course 1 was 1km longer, then W70s would be running 200m further as well. it's time that BOF revise the ratios to increase elite lengths by 5-10% relative to other classes, otherwise planners are tied to a system that clearly does not work.
A tiring and stressful, but enjoyable day. I hope that a few people were positively surprised by Wharncliffe.
