running 44:00 [3] 9.0 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Easy early morning run. It was much lighter this morning than the previous couple of mornings when I have headed out at 5:30ish. So much so that I suddenly got worried I had set the alarm wrongly and it was later than I thought. Had to stop a passing pedestrian to ask the time. Fortunately no such mistake, just the lack of cloud making it lighter.

Thursday Oct 30, 2008 #

running 51:10 [3] 11.5 km (4:27 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

From Port Melbourne to Sth Yarra to pickup the car from the service place. Took the scenic rather than the most direct route. Weather had a bit of everything, rain at the start, then sun and cloud; the only constant was a strong wind.

Wednesday Oct 29, 2008 #

running 40:10 [3] 8.1 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Feeling a bit tired and flat this morning, so a gentle run. Stiff cool wind blowing off the water didn't help either

Dancing 1:30:00 [1]

Started to learn some new steps. Repition, repition, repition

Tuesday Oct 28, 2008 #

running 57:40 [3] 12.8 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Lunchtime run around Westgate Park. Felt good for most of the way, but started to tire a bit on the run back along Lorimer St

Monday Oct 27, 2008 #

running 48:10 [3] 10.1 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Morning run, round the esplanade to Nelson Place and back. Particularly attractive sunrise this morning. The different layers of cloud meant that the sun was behind a screen and appeared as a big white ball as it rose above a heavier cloud bank on the horizon. Looked almost like the moon rising above mountains

Sunday Oct 26, 2008 #

running 1:08:40 [3] 14.4 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

An early run to try and get the best of the forecast conditions. Was warm and windy, but reasonably pleasant. Not really pushing, just enjoying the early morning. 35 mins and 7.1 km out into the wind; then 33:40 and 7.3km back with the tail wind.

running 48:10 [3] 10.1 km (4:46 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Easy paced early morning run.

Thursday Oct 23, 2008 #

running 38:00 [3] 8.5 km (4:28 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Pleasant afternoon run along the strand and around Willi streets.
Got a letter from the travel insurance company regarding my claim for the cosst associated with changing flights due to Glenda's broken leg. When I completed the claim form I sent a description of what happened, copies of the original e-tickets and new e-tickets, tax invoices from Qantas. The reply I got asked for a detailed description, medical certifacte to declare that the broken leg wasn't a pre-existing injury and she had travelled against medical advice and written confirmation from Qantas about the extra costs. As far as I can see the letter shows they don't expect and therefore don't read the info you give them; they just assume you haven't provided any of thais info and send a letter requesting it as a matter of course. Very frustrating!

running 55:00 [3] 12.0 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Lunchtime run , pretty relaxed and not pushing.

Dancing 1:00:00 [1]

First time for many weeks. What had originally been a one week break to go to the Oz Champs turned into several weeks longer due to a spousal leg break and the added domestic complications.
Amazing how much you can forget in four weeks, but at the same time surprising how much you remember despite having done no practice or even thinking about it.

Note
(rest day)

Was hoping to get a run in, but events of the day conspired against it. Late night attending final speach night as a parent meant I didn't feel inclined to get up early. Then was supposed to have a mediation session at VCAT, but one of teh other parties didn't show. Claimed he didn't know about it. Everyone else had reeived their letter and a reminder phone call, except for him. I don't think anybody believed the excuse, but there was nothing that could be done, except reschedule. By the time that was sorted out decided to go into teh office but was not particularly motivated for a run. The evning was taken up with teaching, and by the time I got home from that basically couldn't be bothered.
On the way out of the car park after the aborted VCAT session saw a commodore and a toyota SR5 twin cab parked side by side in a pair of spots marked for samll cars. Would like to know the owners' definition of a large car.

running 37:20 [3] 8.2 km (4:33 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

This turned out to be quicker tean I was intending. Was going to be a short easy run. Felt really comfortable, so I was a bit surprised by the time.

running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: sarva ms

Warmup before and then warmdown after vic champs

orienteering race 45:30 [5] *** 6.9 km (6:36 / km) +220m 5:41 / km
ahr:169 max:177 spiked:16/18c shoes: sarva ms

Vic long champs. Probably my best run for the year, with no mistakes, and only a couple of hestitations to mar an otherwise perfect run. Was a bit slower than I perhaps wanted on first 3 controls, but felt I was running well, just needed to get into the forest. On 4 got a bit closer to the erosion gully than I might have wnated, then stopped a bit short, but read the map and moved on quickly. 5 was good, then had the fastest slpits from 6 through to 13. Second hestitation was on 14, where I had trouble matching the control description to the map to what I was seeing. Found the control OK, but was a bit slower than I might have wnated. No further problems through the last 4controls, including another split win . Won M50 by 2 and a half minutes thanks mainly to the excellent middle section. Happy with the way I was running. Was a little concerned before the start that I might not be mentally prepared to push myself enough, but as it turned out shouldn't have worried, the mind was up to the job.
Only criticism was that the course could have been 1 to 1.5km longer. The course length was 5.5 km, but the garmin read 6.9, would have liked to have seen a course length of 6.5 to 7

running 21:30 [3] 4.5 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

The first 3.5km and last 1km of lunchtime run. Headed out in a group of 4, but after 3.5k they slowed and I picked up the tempo. Then after 4k of tempo eased down over the last k.

running tempo 16:20 [4] 4.0 km (4:05 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

After leaving the others picked up the pace and ran steadily between 4 and 4:10. Felt good, and was doing it quite comfortably.

Thursday Oct 16, 2008 #

running 49:00 [3] 10.0 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Fairly relaxed early morning run. It was dark at the beginning and some of the ships moored in the bay were lit up like christmas trees

Wednesday Oct 15, 2008 #

running tempo 54:00 [4] 12.2 km (4:26 / km) +80m 4:17 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Slower for the first and last km, and a good steady pace for the middle 10km. Felt like I was runing well. However, nearly ended in disaster when I had to stop dead to avoid a car that had run a red light. Suddenly felt the left glut, but it turned out to be nothing.

Tuesday Oct 14, 2008 #

running 46:00 [3] 9.3 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Slowish early morning run. Much cooler this morning than for the last couple of days. Heading round the beach saw 5 balloons rising into the air. Pretty spectaculat sight. In the early morning light the flames lit up the balloon like a big lamp

Monday Oct 13, 2008 #

running 46:00 [3] 10.3 km (4:28 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Lunchtime run around the beach and back. Not as frenetic as last week, but still a good solid run.

Sunday Oct 12, 2008 #

running 1:08:50 [3] 14.0 km (4:55 / km) +100m 4:45 / km
shoes: kyano 14

A warm, windy morning. Didn't have any great enthusiasm for this run, hence the time. Went up to the westgate and back. Northerly made it a bit tougher going out, than coming back.
Had to take Tim over to Hoppers Crossing last night and got to see the anti-hoon laws in action first hand. Going along Korroit Creek Rd saw the police pull over a couple of cars drag racing. By the time I came back the cars were on the back of a pair of flatbeds and had their number plates taken off.

Saturday Oct 11, 2008 #

running 40:50 [3] 9.0 km (4:32 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Out through Jawbone reserve and back. On the return saw my first ssnake of the summer, about a 1m tiger lying half wat accross the path.

Thursday Oct 9, 2008 #

running 41:30 [3] 8.3 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Medicore effort this morning. Legs felt tired, and teh mind wasn't in any mod to drive them harder.

Wednesday Oct 8, 2008 #

running 53:20 [3] 12.0 km (4:27 / km) +100m 4:16 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Lunchtime run to docklands with a couple of "hills" over the raiway line to Spencer St thrown in for extras. Felt really good on this run. Had a visit to the physio yesterday who worked on "freeing-up" the hips. I was cursing at the time as he hurt almost as much as when the guy doing the bone marrow biopsy a couple years back who stuck the punch into unnumbed cartlidge. But today was the freest I've felt for a while so it was worth the short-term agony.

Tuesday Oct 7, 2008 #

running 44:50 [3] 9.0 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Very relaxed run. Early morning along the Esplanade. Coming back could see all the channel lights in the bay flashing, which I had never noticed before.

Monday Oct 6, 2008 #

running warm up/down 6:10 [3] 1.3 km (4:45 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

The first and last parts of lunchtime run.

running tempo 37:50 [4] 9.0 km (4:12 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Solid paced run around the beach. Going out was about 4:20 pace and then it picked up on the return, trying to avoid getting drenched by the apporaching clouds

Sunday Oct 5, 2008 #

running 32:30 [3] 7.0 km (4:39 / km) +30m 4:33 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Reasonably easy run.

Saturday Oct 4, 2008 #

running 1:10:30 [3] 14.9 km (4:44 / km) +100m 4:35 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Went round the beach to Newport power station and back. Decided on a longer run today as with the start of daylight saving I ddn't want to get up at what was effectively 5am to get longer run in tomorrow. Now I can do a shorter run tomorrow and crib some extra time in bed.

Friday Oct 3, 2008 #

running 44:30 [3] 9.5 km (4:41 / km) +50m 4:34 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Lunchtime run. Started pretty slowly, but then picked up the pace after about 3k.

Thursday Oct 2, 2008 #

running 45:50 [3] 10.0 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: kyano 14

Finally got out in the late afternoon after a fiddly day. Good news for the day was Glenda was allowed home, so picking her up filled most of the morning. The afternoon was occupied by those jobs which had been neglected over the last couple of days, but required to be done.

Wednesday Oct 1, 2008 #

running 1:00:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:37 / km) +100m 4:27 / km
shoes: kyano 14

Felt I needed the run and it was OK despite not ever really being comforatble. Left glut was a bit tight and after about 9k the left hip got a bit sore. Neither is a real issue, more just nuicance value.
The glut problem was because in the rush yesterday I didn't get a post run stretch in, and if I miss the stretch then it is a bit tight the next day. Nothing to worry about, just need to make sure I leave time for the stretches, which I did today.
Hip soreness was due to some bruising, the origins of which are somewhat embarassing. When Glenda broke her leg on Saturday night I foolishly looked, saw her foot as a crazy angle to the leg and promptly fainted. Landed on the hip, and hence the bruising and soreness. Tim did a great job in calling the ambulance etc. By the time it arrived I had recovered and could speak to them. With everything else going on didn't notice the hip until I finally got to bed on Saturday night and it was sore to touch. No pain normally, just sore when pushed in the right spot. Should go away with time.
