Snowshoeing 40:25 [3]

Felt pretty silly in snowshoes with temps in the 50's, but I couldn't tolerate the heavy slush and thought it would help. Even with the snowshoes, my feet were soaking by the time I got back. Dan Parker over hill, then back by cut-off. Didn't get to the end, but this is a rough week.

Just way too much work getting the snowshoes through this stuff. Hoped that a snowmobile might have gone on some of the trails across the road, but not much luck. Gave up after a little ways down the right fork and headed back.

Thought that I'd stay out of the woods to avoid the slop, and stayed on the power lines. Instead it was a mudfest. Powerlines north of Raddin through tree farm, north at Y to Groton Street, Dunstable and back.

Great Hill Conservation Area right by work. Thought that it would be less messy further east and south from Groton, but it was still a real mess. Wore O-shoes so it was ok, even walking across the ice w/water running over it. Added an extra shorter loop across top of hill to add distance and time.

Walking on trail 1:18:42 [3]

A nice day to try out some new trails and went out early to avoid the slush. South power line to east trail joining south bypass trail (as J-J calls it) to Dan Parker. South of Martins Pond into Wharton Plantation land. Didn't see the correct trail and came out on Old Dunstable so walked to Rocky Hill and down to Dan Parker. Found cut-off trail to avoid large hill on the way home.

Reversed the Dan Parker Road loop, then added a trip south on the power lines to the large pond. Need to ask J-J how to get around that one. Pretty cold and was happy to get out before the wind got worse. Studded O-shoes again worked well.

Loop trail around Great Hill Conservation Area right by work. Was going to snowshoe but coverage was iffy. Was very icy and was very happy to end without falling. Should have had studded o-shoes I guess. Would have been better than the trail runners I was wearing.

Took right fork to Dan Parker end and back on other trail. Pulled out the old cassette walkman and listened to an old Nylons concert tape. Brought back great memories before my life went into the toilet.
