hiking 1:28:58 [3] 3.3 mi (26:58 / mi) +300m 21:01 / mi

Hiking up Mount Wachusett and down. Combined a chance to climb a mountain in some fantastic weather with a chance to experience a major bike race, with the added incentive of having J-J's brother doing the announcing.

Orienteering 52:47 [3] 2.1 km (25:08 / km)

Decided to only do 1 sprint and selected B. A rather disasterous run, using the term loosely. Headed out of the start in the wrong direction, couldn't find the first control amongst all othe moutain laurel, fell a few times making my shins all bruised (now that it's shorts weather!) couldn't figure out the indistinct trails, couldn't find my way out of #6, jsut not that much fun. At least the weather was great! As was the food and company at the bbq, so the trip down was worthwhile after all.

walk/jog on trail 51:20 [3] 5.4 km (9:30 / km)

Out to the powerlines, north. Continued on main line to top of large hill, then south on connector trail to Dan Parker and home. Insects were in short supply so trip was actually quite nice. Saw no one except for the logging vehicles at work near Dan Parker.

Note

HU-5; one of my worst evenings in a long time.

walking on road 31:29 [3] 3.5 km (9:00 / km)

Had a chance to walk the streets of West Concord during dance class. Should have been longer but I wore the wrong shoes and quit before the hot spots became something more.

Walking on trail 47:26 [3]

Down Dan Parker road for the first time in a long while. Took the right fork by the ponds and back over the hill. AOWN: one small garter snake, a great blue heron, a family of Canada Geese with 6 "teenage" goslings, and too darn many FDF's to count. On the edge of being tolerable making me wonder if I'll do that loop again until fall.

Walking on trail 38:33 [3]

Across from Northfield, down the right fork to the bridge, up along the esker then to the left to the Town Forest access road and back. No deer flies as far as I could see.

Orienteering 43:23 [3] 2.5 km (17:21 / km)

Shadowed Stephen around Sprint A at Crandalls. He did real well with only a few helpful comments from his mom. Made sure I had a map with me as well, in case he took off on a run that I couldn't keep up. Luckily he doesn't move that fast when he's navigating on a more advanced course at the same time.

Orienteering 38:02 [3] 2.67 km (14:15 / km)

Sprint B at Crandalls, which I did first, figuring that Sprint A would be better to go with Stephen. Fun course, even if I don't really like sprinting. I do love reading a 1:5,000 map though! Messed up 2-3 pretty bad, otherwise ok.

Canoeing 1:00:00 [3]

With the Stephen and the 4th grade field trip. Pretty relaxed paddling as we were there to look along the shore for wildlife. Not exactly an aerobic workout but something I can log!

Note

Still can't seem to find time to get any real training in, but a big milestone was reached today when my car hit 280,000 miles. Check engine light still on :-).
