Visited Dr. Büsser yesterday. Another blood test, results in a week. He suspects that might have caught a special virus, e.g. Epstein-Barr virus.

Legs are still sore...

Team RMF ride! ;)
Pfäffikon-Uznach-Goldingen-Atzmännig-Oberricken-Uznach-Schübi (for me). 60km, 700m climbing. Pace was rather high, especially in the first hill where Jean Francois pushed really hard. Fortunately, he tired significantly and it got more comfortable. My legs were dead after 50k, barely made it home.

Got the results from the latest blood test; the TSH level is in line, i.e. there seems to be no issue with the thyroxin. However, hamatocrit level is now at 40.1, far too low for a trained young man. Have an other appointment next week to find out what is wrong with my blood.

Short ride up to Limberg and back home via Forch. Felt bad. Very slow pace, the avg speed of 24.1km/h says it all.

Road Bike race 2:00:30 [4]
ahr:160 max:179 (sick)

Open race before the UCI worldcup "Zürimetzgete" on the same course as of the pro race. 69km, 750m climbing.

I could start in the first block and also got away pretty well. Pace was high from the beginning on. My legs were turning nicely, could kick when it was necessary. I reached the first peak, Forch, with a smaller group and after pushing hard on the next 10k, we caught a larger group which was probably close to the leading pack. I was riding in this large group and felt still strong, was already thinking about my attack on the last hill. Then all of a sudden, my legs got very sore, all the power was gone. And on the next little hill, I could not keep the pace of the pack (finish time 1:49) and was alone... From then one, my legs were dead. I could not keep up with groups catching me, rider after rider overtook me. When we reached the Pfannenstiel climb, I fought with fat guys who usually have no chance on uphills but my there was simply nothing left in my legs. I took some risk on the downhill to Seestrasse and caugfht a small group with which I intended to ride the last flat kilometers to the finish. But I could not keep the pace of that group, not even drafting. So I ended up alone on the Seestrasse. Group after group came from behind but I could not follow a single group. Over 100 riders overtook me only on the last kilometers. Ended up on 430th position, what a disappointment in my first competition since April.
Lessons learnt for next year: More long rides, at least 2000km in the legs, not wasting the energy in the beginning.
