Note

Easy day recovering. Although I didn't feel ill at any time last week my energy levels were definitely low. That and all amount of time spent of the skis meant that I was feeling pretty wacked by today. Following government and work advice and will work from home this week as I don't want everyone worrying about my cough.

Note

Long day of travel. No rush to the airport and stopped to visit a church and have a picnic. Heathrow very quiet.

Last day and how lucky we were, basically got off the pistes to discover that everything had been shut down due to CV (no waffles today!). Duped the skis outside of the rental place (shut) and headed back to the cabin to get ready to leave (before we were kicked out - though there are worse places to be quarantined!).

Ski itself was great, first properly cold day and the snow was much better. Still pretty windy, though less snow blowing around. In fact, the mountain top we visited was possibly the coldest place I have ever been - wasn't hanging around up there. Lovely descent back into Geilo to finish.

Probably the some of the worst conditions that I have ever skied in. Snow was good, temperature was okay, but wind was brutal and blowing snow. Found a lovely sunny sheltered spot for lunch and pushed on after straight into the wind. Wind chill temperature must have gone from about 0 to -20 or so. Battled through it as quick as possible yet still trying to stay together. Back to sun and warmth as soon as we got back to the trees - hard to believe that conditions can be so different just a km apart. Otherwise a great place to ski and a beautiful route. Cough annoying but not getting worse.

More wind and more snow, so again had to follow the piste monsters route. Some brutal wind at the top of the first hill so was very happy to get to a really, really nice cafe which did excellent waffles. Massive descent back down to Geilo afterwards on lovely soft snow - which was fortunate for Darren as he made multiple trips into it. Back down around the lake the windy was really strong and the tracks were nearly completely covered by drifting snow.

Picked up a bit of a cough yesterday, otherwise feeling grand, but of course everyone else is going to think I have CV! At least I have no contact with the outside world and the rest of MDC with me have nowhere to run anyway!

Followed where the piste trackers had been as it snowed quite a bit last night. Up to a really nice cafe on top of a mountain - no waffles but good pancakes. then an expended loop back over the adjacent hill with Emma, Nick and Will. Pretty windy and snow covering our tracks quite quickly.

Looked like the best forecast for the week so headed to the plateau to the west. Unfortunately none of the tracks had been pisted in a while and the going was slow all day. Train station half way round at lunch took a few people out, leaving Will, Mark, Clare, Simon and me to do the full loop. Took a few falls on the last big descent, but was glad we weren't going down the way we climbed up onto the plateau after lunch, which was horrendously steep. Passed a cafe near the end but didn't have time for a waffle stop. Good day.
