Bike - Road 3:02:50 intensity: (21 @0) + (13:47 @1) + (1:11:55 @2) + (1:23:10 @3) + (8:58 @4) + (4:39 @5) 83.23 km (2:12 / km) +755m 2:06 / km

Much colder than I was expecting (even some snow left on the hills) and was thankful that I had failed in my half hour search for my summer cycling gloves. Haven't been on the road bike since last summer and it felt so fast compared to the SS. Coldness dissipated when the sun broke through and I was treated to a lovely cycle across the Beacons - it's just a shame that it's such a trek to get up to the nice areas. Legs tired for the last hour (lack of endurance cycling telling).

Run - Trail 52:04 intensity: (1 @0) + (1:28 @1) + (14:19 @2) + (25:41 @3) + (7:24 @4) + (3:11 @5) 9.7 km (5:22 / km) +205m 4:51 / km
ahr:141 max:183 shoes: Asics 1150 (2012)

Extended warm up to explore a bit of Newport and check out the '14 Locks'. Beautiful morning and plenty warm enough jogging in shorts and t-shirt. Some nice bits to the run as well, though the locks were a bit run down and lacking any charm. Just made it back in time to start the O as last start.
12 PM

Run - Orienteering race 37:27 intensity: (19 @1) + (21 @2) + (5:36 @3) + (27:37 @4) + (3:34 @5) 7.55 km (4:57 / km) +98m 4:39 / km
ahr:155 max:172 shoes: Jalas 2010

SWOC local event, Gaer Fort and Tredegar Park, Blue, 6.8km, 22 controls.
Quads still sore from Wednesday's roads resulting in a lack of power on hills and not wanting to push hard on the road sections. Area was very easy so just a matter of trotting along at a pace that I felt comfortable at. Was wanting to push harder around the flat park at the end but my legs weren't so keen. Good to get a brisker run in though.

shoes: Saucony Excursion TR5

Such a lovely day that I had to go for a wander. Went exploring some more local paths that I'd yet to explore and some that I didn't know existed. Ended up below the Garth and opted to take the direct route up. Not tried this before as it's soooo steep. Not sure if you could say that I kept running, but I didn't walk either. Tired by the top. Heal really doesn't like these shoes but I can't not ever wear them when they are still in such good condition!

Note

Rest day as had to the car for it's annual heath check - it wasn't too healthy.

Bike - Road 31:56 intensity: (7 @0) + (6:17 @1) + (24:28 @2) + (1:04 @3) 13.01 km (2:27 / km) +41m 2:25 / km

IW. Gorgeous morning with a surprising amount of frost about, but it didn't feel cold. legs were feeling quite tired though. Pleased to see that the blokes in the Mini hadn't returned to dump their kitchen in my absence (at least in the same place).
5 PM

Bike - Road 30:00 intensity: (5:29 @0) + (2:18 @1) + (10:34 @2) + (10:47 @3) + (52 @4) 12.79 km (2:21 / km) +56m 2:18 / km
ahr:122 max:154

HFW. I'm getting better at this confrontation lark! A bloke in a black Audi A3 with tinted windows blasted past leaving me very little room, so as I caught up to him at the traffic lights I knocked on his window and very politely asked him to give cyclists a bit more room. Living to his stereotype he mouthed "fuck off" to me and then floored it when the lights changed. A nice man.
7 PM

Run - Orienteering race 57:14 intensity: (15 @0) + (25 @1) + (59 @2) + (15:47 @3) + (38:53 @4) + (55 @5) 12.31 km (4:39 / km) +207m 4:17 / km
ahr:151 max:166 shoes: Asics 1150 (2012)

Newport (east), SWOC Street O, 1 hour Score.
Unfortunately a very poor turnout this evening, which was a shame as the weather was great, as the area and the planning, probably the most enjoyable one that I've done.

Started out feeling good but got knocked back into place when I discovered just how hilly this part of Newport is - came as areal shock after two years in Cardiff!. Felt really good for 40 minutes afterwhich my quads started to complain, so slowed down a bit and opted not to push it to get a couple more low pointers at the end.

Run - Trail 1:22:36 intensity: (32 @0) + (11:01 @1) + (24:16 @2) + (31:18 @3) + (11:42 @4) + (3:47 @5) 12.74 km (6:29 / km) +451m 5:30 / km
ahr:138 max:202 shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite (3)

MDC run from HQ, quite a fast group put tonight so not much in the way of stopping. Explored a few new paths towards Morganstown, mostly nice (apart from the field which we spooked two horses in). Great Irish stew provided by Ben after.

ahr:135 max:158

IW. Not a bad morning but a surprisingly absence of other cyclists about.
5 PM

Bike - Road 30:55 [3] 12.06 km (2:34 / km) +68m 2:30 / km

HFW. Going along quite nicely in the damp until I came across a couple of blokes in a mini dumping kitchen shelves in the bushes. Had to stop and ask them to put them back in the car and to take it to a recycling centre - they did the former, not so sure that they'll do the latter. Tempted to buy a Go-Pro to record such misdemeanors. Was on for a good time for the cycle until the interruption.
