So ends a very enjoyable few days of 'coaching' in Portugal, shame to be missing all the finals but one can't do everything that one would like! Nice to be part of the team (though I don't think I'd ever adjust to the kit!) and everyone was great - Poo Boy was even tolerable... Event organising was very interesting and I doubt we've heard the last form that.

Head nicely coloured after some lovely weather (cool misty mornings and sunny afternoons - great for running) but a bit disappointing to find it sunny here as well upon return! Best of luck to everyone in the finals.

Headed back to the Middle Qual area with Hollie to check out the controls that had issues and to sort out why Hollie had lost so much time. Map was terrible, especially the vegetation which was so inconsistent, as was the mapping of path sizes (which is what lead to Hollie's mistake). Map definitely not right for two of the problem controls, but not wrong enough to void the event either (the one in the wrong place was but we didn't go there).

EOC Middle Final Model. Everyone else lovely this terrain, I didn't. Wide open pine trees with short grass and rolling contours, enough going on to keep you looking at the map and checking direction but nothing like enough to slow you down at all. Super nice and sunny afternoon.

EOC Long Model. Odd choice of area, well rough and overgrown and the athletes didn't much like it. I did but I'm not racing! Map wasn't great - found out that it has been mapped by a different mapper to the race. I'm sure there's logic there somewhere...

Interesting day all around with the organisers having major problems in many areas - protests on 4 controls in the middle qualification. One they admitted was a dodgy site but they ignored it, one unit that didn't beep so they reinstated people (don't know why, I think it still flashed), one they was suspected to be in the wrong place (they said it wasn't) and one that was in the wrong place (they agreed). For the latter they invited anyone who wanted to to make a protest. I think everyone there did so as far as I can see all they can now do is let everyone into the final in the heat that was affected... Fun times.

Jumped on one of the accommodations bikes for a bit of an explore. Hit the beach in the sunshine which was just smashing but the bit hill on the way back was a bit of an effort. Feeling good at last.

EOC Middle Model, nice area, very runnable away from sandy paths. Warm but not sunny and enjoyed being out though still not feeling all that good.

Here as a coach for GBR, all a bit odd feeling, especially running in a GB O suit today! Goof fun though and excellent accommodation (and food) though the internet access is useless.
