Walk 1:30:00 [1] 18.0 km (5:00 / km)

Laugavegur - day 3; Emstrur to Thorsmork (5 hours). Last day of the traditional route, nice but not so spectacular today. A nice canyon to start the day but a long dusty section after that, very grateful to have the wind behind us though. Another viciously cold river to wade before finishing through an Islandic novelty; a forest! Okay, so calling it a forest may be a bit of on understatement but there were definitely trees. Finished the day with a bit of scrambling and scree running.

Walk 3:00:00 [1] 27.0 km (6:40 / km)

Laugavegur - day 2; Hranfntinnusker to Emstrur (8 hours). Combined the traditional second and third days so covered a bit today. Morning was surprisingly easy and the snow meant that all the gullies were covered and we could walk right over the top-kept the fingers crossed that they weren't going to collapse under my weight though! Lunch at Alftavatni before a long surreal trek through black dessert terrain with pyramid mountains and several very cold rivers.

Walk 1:00:00 [1] 12.0 km (5:00 / km) +750m 3:49 / km

Laugavegur - day 1; Landmannalaugar to Hrafntinnusker (3 hours). Easy start to the trek with a short day, but it was mostly uphill through snow. Best bus trip out there; first on main roads, then side roads, gravel, 4x4 tracks and finally through a river-all on a public bus! Lots of volcanic activity all around but not enough time to dip in the hot springs. Snow all black with ash fall from the recent eruption and trail only open for last two days to to the access road being closed from the winter. Clear and sunny for most of the day with plenty of photo opportunities.

Note

Long day travelling, starting with a 30 minute walk to the bus station at 5am with bags (too tight to pay for a taxi!) and finishing with a walk around Reykjavik in the setting sun at midnight.

Run - Orienteering 20:04 intensity: (6:30 @1) + (13:34 @4) 3.8 km (5:17 / km) +45m 4:59 / km

Orienteering in the botanical Gardens. Warm up was the run there. That took 16 seconds… Ran steady and generally kept things under control. Was fun and didn’t get caught in the bear pit. Collected a few controls after.
Off to Iceland early doors tomorrow for two weeks so not so sure how much training I’ll be uploading in that period.

Run - Trail 1:51:37 intensity: (12 @0) + (19:10 @1) + (43:30 @2) + (45:46 @3) + (2:59 @4) 21.38 km (5:13 / km) +463m 4:43 / km
ahr:146 max:169 weight:68.9kg shoes: Asics 1150 (2010)

Longish loop up Rivelin and back Porter. Tired heading out (glad not to have done the Trunce last night) but kept good posture and form for most of the run. Need to keep doing these sorts of distances so I can cope with the long qualification race at WOC. Not sure what would happen if I made the final though!
Info sent out to FVO runners about the Harvester. Team is looking strong.
Had my first NZ visitor to my AP today, country count now 17.

Mapping 1:00:00 [0]

Morning (4 hours) mapping Silverdale with Mr ‘Boyzone’ Lynch for company - can’t be trusted on my own. Was thinking of running, as the Trunce would have been good to do, but am a little tired and plenty busy.
