Run - Orienteering race 27:40 [5] ** 5.7 km (4:51 / km) +45m 4:40 / km
spiked:16/18c slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

IOC Relays, Magilligan (the flat boring bit). Mostly very easy and all very fast; very short grass, a lot of fences and an occasional contour; not my cup of tea at the best of times, and not what I wanted after yesterday.
Ran the middle leg with Boyzone on first and Bill anchoring. Boyzone did of course come back in the lead, which meant I was being chased by Roar. Ran as hard as my body was capable of today, two small hesitations may have cosy me about 20 seconds, but aside from that I just don’t yet have the speed. Had the slightly shorter gaffle so managed to keep a slender lead for Bill, but it wasn’t enough as c.hill was in a rage after the previous two days and was in no mood to let experience triumph over youth. So a good victory to the wee lads from CNOC but it did take 18 broken bones from me to allow them to do it…

Run - Trail warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Warm up with Boyzone. Sort of forgot about warming down.

Run - Trail warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Run to the start and then a few bits and pieces to keep warm and lose but not to tire me out!

Run - Orienteering race 1:17:44 [5] **** 12.9 km (6:02 / km)
spiked:26/28c slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

IOC Classic, Magilligan – 6th (1st: Nic 71.55). This area was unrecognisable to the area that I ran the SHI in 5 years ago; instead of thick knee high grass in was mostly grazed to ground level, making it a good 2mpk quicker. Unfortunately my legs were only capable of running 1 mpk quicker, and that hurt a lot. Was about as clean as possible in a race like this, probably loosing a total of less than 30 seconds, but there was a lot of easy navigation and fast running so surprised to only being 6 minutes down (and two on third) – and at 72 minutes, yet another drastically under planned IOC (but I wasn’t complaining this year). Swdesport took a much deserved title (and probably not his last – but hopefully I’ll have some say in that next year). Disappointed that I wasn’t able to be competitive but also happy that I can manage what I did.

Run - Trail warm up/down 17:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:40 / km)

A decent enough warm up trying to get some life into my legs.

Run - Orienteering race 18:01 [4] ***** 2.3 km (7:50 / km) +25m 7:26 / km
spiked:23/25c slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

IOC Sprint, Coleraine University - 11th (Nic Simonin 15.35). Tiny but great little area for a sprint and a good course. Legs were very tired right from the off so was very slow, but at least I didn’t get caught out by the tricky route choice (worked that out when shown the map in the start lane) but was a numpty in two other places (7 & 10) when I went to look on the wrong side of a boundary.
Got caught by Dooby about half way and he gave me a good demonstration of how not to orienteer in a Sprint passing me plenty of times on the second half and then missing the last control in style.. Should have been a minute quicker, but did run through a tiny bit of OOB though (without realising) on the way to 19 – but I certainly wasn’t the only one as there were plenty of footprints around…

Trip over to Ireland for the IOC; flight nearly empty, I though the airports were under pressure.

Club night event around Broomhill. It's easy when you mapped it. One grumpy resident who didn't like orienteers. Nice evening but legs very dead.

A lot of work and not a lot of time – why are there so few hours in the day?
