(sick) (rest day)

World Cup, Oslo: Classic. As I suffered so much yesterday for a third of the distance I didn't think that there was anything to be gaining by running today, and I think that was the right decision. Shame though as it looked like the type of area that I would have really enjoyed and I have been looking forward to it all season as a fitness test and as a barometer to see where I currently fit in internationally (as it's been so long since I've done an international race). Very, very disappointed not to be able to give this race a go but sometimes life just does crap things.

Run - Orienteering race 53:55 [3] 6.0 km (8:59 / km) +275m 7:19 / km
spiked:18/21c (sick) shoes: VJ Falcons 09

World Cup, Oslo: Middle. Really fun course and terrain and an amazing hot and sunny day, all perfect, apart from my body which was awful. Tried to start at a decent (but still very slow) pace and kept that up for about 1.5km, then hit a hill and my body just completely refused to do anything more. Jogged/walked the rest feeling awful and coughing an awful lot, about the least fun I have ever had orienteering. No surprises to finish right at the back, but very embarrassing as I would have enjoyed it so much had I been in a healthy condition. Did lose quite a few minutes in mistakes, which was partly due to not having raced in Norway for several years but mostly due to not being able to focus properly because of the way I was feeling. Very disappointing.

Run - Trail warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 09

Minimal warm up as I wanted to save any energy I had for the race.

Run - Trail 33:25 [2] 6.0 km (5:34 / km) +120m 5:04 / km
(sick) shoes: Asics 2120

Had to get out as the day was so good and I?ve been getting frustrated at not being able to do much over the past few weeks. Still hardly improving and couldn't manage much more than a jog. Depressing and it looks as if I'll only have about a 10% chance of being well enough to race properly on Friday or Saturday, which is really disappointing as I have been looking forward to doing a real race.

Run - Trail 36:35 [2] 6.0 km (6:06 / km) +60m 5:48 / km
(sick) shoes: Asics 2120

Had to get out, as I felt better after the weekend running I may as well see what happens during the week as well - did a loop around Eccy Woods with Boyzone. Much the same actually, dead body, no strength but comfortable enough at low intensity interspersed with several bouts of violent coughing. Do feel as if I have cleared my lungs out a bit though.

Note
(sick)

Cough is subsiding but getting more horrible; now when I cough I get lungs full of moisture which obviously isn't very nice, causes lots more coughing and my stomach joins in by attempting to discard its contents. Thankfully this isn't happening very often.
