(rest day)
What an introduction to Corsica! My bag never made it onto the flight from Nice meaning that we couldn?t camp as planned, decided to get a bus into Bastia, the 8.00 one never turned up and when the 9.30 one eventually did at 10.00 the drive said he didn?t want to make the trip twice so he was going to sit there and wait for the 11.00 flight. Taxis were 55Euro for the 15 minute trip so we had no choice apart to sit there hungry ? no food in the airport aside from a very soggy 5Euro cheese and tomato sandwich. It was horrible. Eventually got to Bastia at midnight, no accommodation to be found at any level and all food places shut, walked for two hours to find a (semi) quiet beach and slept on it for the night on top of Niall?s one person tent. Awoke to an amazing sunrise but also to find that we had put the tent on shit and to see a local let her dog shit right next to Faye (still in her sleeping bag), then smile and walk off leaving it! Then we were shouted at by a man driving past in an old Fiesta brandishing a hammer, only to see him again on our walk back into town pull an emergency stop just after a speed camera, reverse up onto the kerb (we then crossed the road!), wander around for a few seconds, put his hand down his trousers, pull out the hammer and smash the speed camera. What an introduction to island life!!! Did get my bag back in later in the morning though.
