Run - Orienteering 45:00 [3] 3.0 km (15:00 / km) +80m 13:14 / km
slept:6.5 weight:72kg (injured) shoes: Inov8 2009

Sprint session around the Botanical gardens with the Sheffield boys. Four courses of about 500m with 6/7 controls, a lot of fun but by gum were my legs refusing to move. Usually felt great for the first leg but by half way through each I was struggling to keep any sort of momentum. Lots of work needed. Fun session though and a decent warm down (unlike warm up, which was for sure part of the problem) around the Edge and then on down to the end of clubnight.

Rest, glorious rest. Not that I’m actually all that tired, still it was a minging evening (the rain completely ruined my hair on the walk home…) and I do of course have to taper for next weekend…

Run - Track 1:01:00 intensity: (35:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (1:00 @5) 2.0 km (30:30 / km)

Final drills session at the EIS with Mrs Candy. Mostly quite easy (which was a good thing) aside from the time trial (which was not so good), however as I’d missed the first week I didn’t have a time to compare against. Was 300m broken up into 50m shuttle runs; first half felt lovely and easy; the second didn’t. 57.1 seconds, no idea how bad that is but I’m pleased as it’s the first time that I’ve actually tired running flat out (and as with all my fitness at the moment, the lack of strength and endurance was all too obvious).

Great set of classes and well worth doing – so good to have the opportunity to do them but very envious of those still young enough for it to make a real difference in their running career.

Run - Orienteering race 1:06:18 [4] ***** 5.6 km (11:50 / km) +250m 9:41 / km
spiked:15/16c slept:6.25 weight:72kg (injured) shoes: VJ Falcons

The Trossahcs. Amazing, love this area so much, but it’s oh so tough when you’re fat and unfit. Struggled massively with any incline but enjoyed every second out there – even took the straight (and slower) route on the long leg as I didn’t see the point in being here and running around the road. Very happy with the way that my physical condition held together but not so happy at being beaten by two M50’s! Still, at least I know how slow I’ll be running in another 15 years…
Tired but not hurting after the run, so considerable fixing now undertaken in my back. In a lot of ways I could now classify myself as not injured, but as I’m still quite restricted in my back movement I’ll continue to record it until I get properly fixed by a physio.

Run - Road warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.0 km (6:40 / km) +30m 6:21 / km

Long run right across the map to get to the start and a bit of extra warming up (keeping warm) once there.

Run - Orienteering race 42:54 [4] ***** 5.4 km (7:57 / km) +220m 6:36 / km
spiked:20/21c slept:6.5 (injured) shoes: VJ Falcons

Middle race on Touch; stayed in the nice bit (therefore lots of loops) and was a great wee course but very hard work. Legs can’t cope with rough and up and rough and down yet so struggled throughout to move. Navigated cleanly but slowly. Really enjoyable course but also a really poor result – finished 74th, way off getting even a single UK cup point. Plenty of numptys out there today though and I somehow managed to beat Cuddles!

Run - Trail 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km) +60m 7:42 / km

Run to the start via a very quick visit to the finish. Made it with seconds to spare.

Day of work and travel. Not the best type of day, but the trip north was enjoyable.

slept:7.0 (injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Clubnight night O training on the Collegiate and The Edge. Fun course doing loops around both campuses with a bit of a run between. Hard to read at 1:5k but a bit of local knowledge helped – not enough o keep ahead of ba-ba though who passed me about half way running really well. Apart from my back still aching quite a bit, it was all good.

Run - Road 7:00 [2] 2.0 km (3:30 / km) +25m 3:18 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Down and back to training (warm up/down).

Hips and back well achy after last nights session. Saw the NHS physio this morning who discharged me as my upper back and shoulder are strengthening well. She didn’t care at all about the pain that I get in my lower back or hip as a result of exercising – hope that the solicitors get a move on and get me referred to a decent physio who will sort out such matters.

Run - Track 1:00:00 [2] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)
slept:7.25 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

Drills at the EIS with the forever happy and positive Mrs Candy. Much more alert than last week but shoulder still sore from Saturday’s argument with the world. Did a good set of drills and then onto the track proper for a few 200’s. Felt pretty good for the first half and the technique was going well but was running out of energy by the time I came off the last bend - could swear that it’s a 300m track. Happy though as that’s the first time that I’ve tried running near flat out since August.

Run - Trail 36:35 [1] 6.3 km (5:48 / km) +85m 5:26 / km
slept:8.0 weight:71kg (injured) shoes: Asics 2120

Early afternoon jaunt with Candyman up the parks. Well tired but actually hurting a lot more from the fall than the run, which is good I guess. Well nice day, very warm and sunny and it felt good to be out in it. Also spent a few hours in the morning mapping Howden - nice woods but dodgy surroundings.

slept:7.0 weight:70.5kg (injured) shoes: Asics 2120

Hardest run I’ve done since; felt right awful on the long slog up Porter but as soon as I got to the top and had a bit of variation in both gradient and trail condition I woke up quite a bit. Took a nasty fall while crossing a fence when I was exploring the woods at the top of Porter; landed heavily on my sore shoulder and right side of my back, shook me up something and I’m now well wonky. Great run though and although the pace was slow, it was as fast as I could manage for this duration. How nice are the small paths in Limb valley? Happy but very tired (and sore).

SYO Clubnight, focus on technical exercise tonight so not much in the way of motion achieved. Not a bad thing as I’m still quite tired from Monday. Back also really sore today.

Happy Paddy's day everyone.

“Activate the bum” said Mrs Candy last night. I wasn’t quite sure what she meant us to do but if today’s aches are anything to go by I’m not so sure that I want to re-activate it.

Dusk run from the Johnson’s up Rivelin; lovely mild evening and nice to be back in the valley – it’s always so much easier to do a run that’s not your usual. Provided with a most excellent feed afterwards.

Camp Candy at EIS. Stomach not settled all day so didn’t much feel like running, thankfully the session was quite light from the physical side so I didn’t feel too rough. Leant plenty of exercises to make our butts stronger, but apparently Ash already has a very nice one…

Still very tired from yesterdays run so decided to take it easy today so I can (attempt to) do drills tomorrow.

Lovely day so decided that the Peaks were due my attention after an overly long absence. Despite the sunshine they didn’t make me feel particularly welcome with a cold north-westerly, but once warmed up it was nice to be out. Chose a flat route around Burbage and Stanage but still found the hills tough. Cut straight across from Stanedge Pole to the mines as I’ve not done so before; the first bit was dog rough and wet but I picked up a nice trod after a while which turned out to be nicer than the usual path. Well tired but only slightly less fat.

Rest day, and I did indeed rest – though it wasn’t all play as I was (foolishly?) left in charge of baby Boyzone for several hours.

Run - Orienteering 58:00 [3] ***** 6.2 km (9:21 / km) +190m 8:07 / km

Night O in Eccy Woods. Difficult. Was running slow (but steady) so didn’t make any big mistakes, but lost plenty of time not seeing the flag or running over paths without seeing them, but never started aimlessly circling, which was a good thing. Kept jarring my right ankle which is now complaining a little and is not a good thing, but in all it was a wickedly good session.

SYO Clubnight; circuits lead by Kim. Excellent session and glad I went (may be a little sorry (ie sore) tomorrow though). Hip still sore throughout the day but forgot about it once warmed up, outside of my left foot hurting now though. Maybe I should just face the fact that I’m old and therefore will be forever crocked!

Right hip right sore from yesterday, not quite sure why but giving it a bit of rest won’t hurt it; was planning on resting anyway. Nice evening with Mr and Mrs Johnson instead.
Extremely fat today.

Run - Track 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 km (20:00 / km) +30m 19:03 / km
slept:7.5 (injured) shoes: Asics 2120

Drills at the EIS. Mrs Candy was away this week so were lead (by the slightly less glamorous) Mr Candy. Still useless at trying to coordinate feet/legs/body/arms all at the same time but made some progress in some of the exercises. I like running on my toes; it feels way bouncier – but it isn’t half hard on the calfs.

11 AM

Run - Trail warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.2 km (8:20 / km) +30m 7:24 / km
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcons

Some exercise at last – jog to start (very cold) and back from finish (thankfully downhill).

Run - Orienteering race 50:01 [4] *** 7.9 km (6:20 / km) +125m 5:52 / km
spiked:18/19c slept:7.0 weight:71kg (injured) shoes: VJ Falcons

Wombwell Local event; ran Brown though I thought it may be a bit far for me but the relative lack of climb won me over. Ran steady but never fast – felt like I was taking an extra step on every stride going down hill (to prevent falling over) and on the up hill (as I’m so unfit). Clean throughout (lost maybe 30 seconds in total), just couldn’t push at all and I’m well tired from the exertions now – don’t know what the rest of the boys were up to though as they should have been way quicker. Amazing day and the area was at it’s best with the few brambles and bracken in the area flattened. http://www.syo.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-bin/reitti.cg...
Routegadget selected Boyzone instead of me when I drew my course (Sorry Shane).

Was thinking of a nice midday run on Burbage but the weather turned horrible today so I reverted to my habit of the past few days and stayed in doors. Need to find some motivation from somewhere as I’m being very useless.

Was more determined to run at lunch today, it was a cracking day and all but I just did not want to run.

Run - Orienteering 40:00 [2] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)
slept:7.25 weight:71kg (injured) shoes: Asics Trabuco 12 WR

Clubnight session in Endcliffe Park; three short Night O course with a bit of a twist in each. Camel through me into the hardest first; a mirror image course, would have been nearly impossible without knowledge of the layout of the area, very fun though. Then a map memory where the only problem was trying to work out where in the bushes (that weren’t mapped) some of the controls were… Third exercise was quite easy, just a map with some bits blanked out. Fun session but legs still surprisingly tired from Mrs Candy’s Monday session.

Tuesday Mar 2, 2010 #

Note
slept:7.25 (injured) (rest day)

Enforced rest day due to lack of time to do anything (other than running hungry in the dark, which I was not up for). Can feel last night’s session in my legs and back but not uncomfortably so.

slept:7.0 weight:71kg (injured) shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

Drills session with Mrs Candy at the EIS. First time on an indoor track and first time doing drills, so all very exciting. Was useless; much room for improvement, but that’s the idea in doing this. Used plenty of muscles that I didn’t know I had so a little stiff afterwards. Really good session to do.
