Run - Trail 1:20:50 [3] 12.4 km (6:31 / km) +170m 6:06 / km
slept:6.5 weight:71kg (injured)

A Proper run. In snow and on paths and stuff. And a long one. Suffering now though. An hour was okay, after that it was a struggle. Great to be out though. Burbage looked amazing. Ice and snow frozen to all the rocks but not to deep top get through. Wasn't planning such a long run but I couldn't refuse the conditions. Saw an eijit on the road who wanted a push in their van, left them at it, if they can be so stupid to try and drive up a sheet of ice they are probably best left alone. Saw some climbers as well. Properly running hungry now.

Run - Trail 30:00 [2] 4.2 km (7:09 / km) +80m 6:31 / km
(injured)

Unplanned session: heading to Tan Hill pub in the Northern Dales for New year but snow made it unassailable, so abandoned the car and started to run through the blizzard (so as not to miss dinner!). Thankfully a friendly local gamekeeper passed a few of the group on the road in his Land Rover and made an extra trip to pick up the 10 or so of us trudging through the snow. Full moon and fresh snow – would have loved it had I not been shagged from the morning already.

Busy. Plus a little lazy.

Bike - Static 30:00 [2]
rhr:48 slept:7.0 (injured)

Did a little mapping around Hunter’s Bar this morning but couldn’t manage more than 3 hours before getting a sore back, so did a short bike session instead of increasing the uncomfortableness on my legs. Also mighty slippery out where the compacted icy snow is still lying.

Asics 2140’s for half price (£40) in Decathlon. Whoop. Already have a brand new pair but one can’t refuse an offer like that. Why are the Banks shut today? Unless money grabbers…

Bike - Static 1:00:00 [1]
weight:71kg (injured)

Sat on the turbo-trainer for as the blister on my heel is as massive as yesterday and it wasn’t very keen on the additional friction created from a run.

Physio exercises 10:00 [0]

Been rubbish at doing these for the past week. Need to sort myself out. Popped my blister. Lots of wet and blood. Nice.

Run - Trail 50:00 [4] 10.5 km (4:46 / km) +200m 4:21 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 2009

Chevin Chase, only I didn’t run it this year, instead ran most of the route just before the race with Boyzone. Had to work really hard just to move very slowly. Did the whole thing in 42.38 last year (though without snow) but couldn’t have got within 10 minutes of that this year. So much work to be done. Ankle was better but got a bit more sore running, however I didn’t notice that as my new Inov8’s gave me a (not unexpected) massive blister. Very, very tired.

Friday Dec 25, 2009 #

Note
(injured)

Was going to run in the morning but my heel is still sore from yesterday. It’s very odd; it’s appears to be a long was in as I can only feel it while walking, not if I rub it. Hopefully rest will help it. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Thursday Dec 24, 2009 #

Run - Trail 55:20 [3] 9.5 km (5:49 / km) +180m 5:19 / km
(injured)

Wasn’t feeling like doing much but Boyzone dragged me out, did a loop up to Crookes and along the top of Rivelin, very nice in the snow but I was suffering so much. Had to really work to get up the hill and felt lie pants. Back was grand though but aching after the run. Left heel sore in a very odd way, hopefully just due to wearing in a new pair of shoes.

Note

Mapped in the morning; got Crookesmoor Campus done (small but sweet) and the surrounding roads. Back really sore by the time I got home so called it a day exercise wise.

Note

Four months gone. How many more to go?

Monday Dec 21, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Really tired from the weekend so a rest day was required at much as it has ever been. Also too slippery out for me to run in at the moment as the little snow that we’ve had (4-5cm) is either staying put or turning to ice.

Run - Road 42:20 [2] 7.6 km (5:34 / km) +90m 5:16 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Enduro 3

Started out in crisp sunshine with nothing more than a dusting (but frozen and icy) of snow, started snowing a little after 15 minutes and despite struggling due to yesterdays session I decided to go a little further. Glad that I did as not only did I find a load of new paths on the north side of Porter Brook (new to me a least) but it started snowing properly making it a fun run despite the icy and tiredness.

Bike - Static 31:00 [3]
(injured)

Late session on the turbo-trainer due to a rather mixed up day. Baltic cold last night so wore socks to bed and didn’t wake until 11.30. Neither of them ever happen to me so I’m wondering what the connection is? The end result is being half a day out of sync but I did manage a reasonably production afternoon/evening of Ocad work. The city centre and Walkley are now joined to the Collegiate and only need some editing to make a sweet map. The Edge to be added as soon as Nails finishes playing with it. Big hole north of the centre that needs filling though if there are any volunteers out there?

Note
(injured) (rest day)

After the past two epic days I feel as if I am well deserving of a day off. Besides it was cold and icy outside.

Thursday Dec 17, 2009 #

Run - Road 30:40 [2]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Lunchtime run up through the parks. Got to the end of Endcliffe feeling pretty tired but decided to push on as I’ve a rest day planned for tomorrow. Knackered by the top of Bingham and had to fight through white-out conditions to make it back. I'm well tired but still alive. Saw Mr B in Endcilffe moving considerably faster than all other lunchtime runners (including me).

Physio exercises 7:30 [0]
(injured)

In a rush to get to the club night dinner so had to cut them short.

Run - Road 7:40 [3] 1.6 km (4:47 / km) +20m 4:31 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Run down to Collegiate for a night event on the brilliant new map ;-) Did a loop up past the hospital to get a bit warmer as there was a nip in the air. Felt good.

Run - Orienteering 14:20 [3] 1.5 km (9:33 / km) +55m 8:05 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2120

Short course on the brilliant new map of the Collegiate campus, too familiar with it to be real orienteering but fun nonetheless. Tried to run a little harder a felt good for the first 10 minutes – hard work finishing up the hill.

Run - Orienteering 12:30 [2] 1.0 km (12:30 / km) +30m 10:52 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2120

Did two of the three map memory exercises, though this wasn’t really very difficult as I could picture the control sites without having to remember the legs – got me out for a bit more running though. Back had had enough by the end though.

Run - Road 4:30 [1] 0.7 km (6:26 / km) +25m 5:27 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Jog home to update date the errors on the brilliant map…

Serious amounts of shopping done (yeah, it’s finished!) but no running.

Session with the physio; says that my movements is improving so my rigorous routine must be working…

Run - Road 32:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:20 / km) +75m 5:01 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Up through the Parks and back along Fulwood Road, again with GG. Going to find a way of sneaking out without him soon or else he’ll e getting fitter than me… Made it past 30 minutes for the first time but I really felt the extra distance and weren’t moving at a lighting pace towards the end. Back has also now tightened up. Still positive progress though.

Physio exercises 8:00 [0]

Didn't do a full set as my back is a little not happy.

Run - Road 22:35 [2] 4.5 km (5:01 / km) +70m 4:39 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Evening run around the streets around Endcliffe Park with GG. Didn’t quite mange to shake him off though he was suffering on the hills… Longest run so far (5 minutes up) but felt grand for it and my back didn’t complain at all – things seem to be moving along nicely at the moment.

Friday Dec 11, 2009 #

Note
(injured)

Was planning on a short run this evening but it got dark and cold and I got hungry. Think a rest day would be a good idea as I did do a lot on Wednesday…

Congratulations to Nails who is now a Chartered Landscape Architect (or a very well qualified gardener to many who loiter on AP!).

Physio exercises 10:00 [0]
(injured)

Left it late but did manage to get the exercises done before bed. No plans to do any further exercise as my legs were completely dead this morning after the last two days exertions.

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

Run - Road 7:00 [2] 1.4 km (5:00 / km) +25m 4:35 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Jog along to Western Park for the SYO night-o

Run - Orienteering 17:40 [2]
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Wasn’t sure how much I would manage, being the long course and in the dark, but wayhey, I made it! Tricky at the start as the street lights were much more powerful than my little lamp so I kept loosing my night vision and couldn’t see either the map of the ground, so took it very slowly. Got into the rhythm of things about half way and managed to keep running – all very slow though. Probably not the best way to get back into orienteering but as it was all parkland it didn’t make much difference by being in the dark. All good then.

Run - Road 6:30 [2] 1.3 km (5:00 / km) +15m 4:44 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Run back home with Boyzone. Tired after that and my back is also pretty tight, but feels good to have done something popper.

Physio exercises 10:00 [0]
(injured)

Much more positive today with the result that I’ve both been for a run and done exercises and it’s not even lunch time. Not expecting the new found good vibes to last though as I have to make a trip into town to do some Christmas shopping this afternoon.

Run - Road 19:25 [2] 4.0 km (4:51 / km) +60m 4:31 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Ran around Broomhall to check bits of mapping that I didn’t mark clearly enough. Again felt pretty good on the decent but the climb up beside the Botanical Gardens was seriously slow and hard work. Maps coming on nicely though – nearly time to fit it together with the surrounding bits.

Monday Dec 7, 2009 #

Note
(injured)

Felt like toffee today and couldn’t do anything to make me feel a little more upbeat, gave up on the idea of a run and completely forgot about physio exercises. I hate days like this.

Sunday Dec 6, 2009 #

Note
(injured)

Don’t know what happened today; don’t know where it went, why I didn’t make it out of how I forgot about my exercises (again).

Saturday Dec 5, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Did some mapping I the morning (around the hospital) and spent the rest of the day trying to catch up on the drawing. Completely forgot about physio exercises.

Physio exercises 10:00 [0]

Run - Road 17:40 [3] 3.8 km (4:39 / km) +40m 4:25 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Tried a new route – bit longer than I was expecting. Brocco Bank – Endcliffe Park – Riverdale – Home (even some trail running!). Felt great running down the hill… Riverdale was hard work (How is the top of Riverdale higher than the top of Brocco Bank when it feels like you climb less???) and my neck was starting to feel it by the end, however, as per the last few runs, it’s my out-of-shape legs that complained the most.

Physio exercises 10:00 [0]
(injured)

Left it late to do my exercises but just about got them in. Also through in several press-ups (4) which nearly killed me – how pathetic is that? Still at least I now have enough strength in my shoulder to (just about) give them a go without any lasting after affects.

Wednesday Dec 2, 2009 #

Run - Road 8:30 [1] 1.5 km (5:40 / km) +20m 5:19 / km
(injured) shoes: Asics 2140

Jog half way down to SYO club-night, then home again to collect the paper that GG had forgotten. Numpty. Back down to Collegiate.

Bike - Static 25:00 [2]

Spinning on the gym bike while the rest of SYO amused me playing football while in a crab position (on all fours but face up).

Physio exercises 15:00 [0]

Physio appointment first thing this morning, so didn’t do any further exercise during the day. Same twisting and prodding as last week but don’t feel as sore afterwards. Legs also appear to be recovering from the recent runs, but will find out for sure tomorrow.
