Running race 16:39 [5] 5.05 km (3:18 / km) +20m 3:14 / km

Average start because some kids reckon they can just shove their way to the front line. After that I was pretty quick and feeling alright. First km in 3:10. Second km I chose to take a more direct line to the bend but had a bit of wind and joined the line after 400m or so. Up a slight hill to head into 2km working off someone then saw it hit 3:20. Sped up a bit down the hill and dropped my small group to bridge the next one. At the turn around I'd caught the remnants of the group ahead and worked towards them. 3rd k was also 3:20, but because this doesn't include decimals I went through in 9:51.7. Bit of annoying wind here and a small hill to work up but doing good. Headed around the corner to the exposed road where I think there was a little tailwind, and was 2nd in my disbanded group. Hit 4km in 3:23 and tried to drop my group and catch a guy ahead. Worked at the start but was now quite windy on the road + there was a hill. Navigated one treacherous corner with a 10k runner on the inside with my group just behind but pushed on. Through the tunnel and getting good speed in the last 100m, came in in 16:39 (chip time, gun time was 3s slow). Came 16th, 14th in U18, but 6th in actual U18.
I think the course was slightly more than 5k (5.05 on my watch, multiple others ranging from 5.03-07), so 16:33 I went through 5k on my watch, meaning 3:18 final k. The course changed and was hillier than normal at about 20m climb and less time running on the track sadly. The time is a PB which I am very happy with considering I am probably around the worst part of a cold and there was a bit of moderate rain for the first 2 minutes (including 5 minutes before the start), however its a long way off what I should do based on my 1500/3k times.
Still overwhelmingly happy with the result given sickness. Hopefully I can put together a solid track 5k at the end of the year (without getting sick like I have for the last 3).
