ARDF Team USA training camp Day 2: 2m Classic at Mt Pinos. Smoke cleared away and beautiful day. Pretty rugged and steep terrain which is good practice for Korea. 1 & 2 were equal signal strength at first bearing high point so based on map I went for 1 first. Spiked 2 next after that since every after that seemed far away. Spiked 4. Then 5. 3 was the thorn in my side. My initial bearings n the signal had it SW of the finish. After 5 I went to that area only to have bearings pointed north of the finish. So this one took a huge amount of time but I got it and came in 2nd. Ankle was a little better today than yesterday but still have a bit of a limp when running and my right leg is still doing more than its fair share of the work.

ARDF Team USA training camp Day 2: Sprint at Mt Pinos. This was only my 2nd-ever radio-O sprint, and felt much more comfortable with it compared to my 1st attempt at the US champ's. Flowed through most of them without any problems, just a little sloppy on the 1st set of 5 controls which was enough to send me into 2nd place. Probably had optimal route on the 2nd set of 5, but definitely not my schitzo first set. Ankle prevented me from doing real sprinting so hope it keeps getting better between now and Korea.

ARDF Team USA training camp day 1 - Foxoring course. A very simple fox-O. Had some map reading issues on 1st 2 controls. 3rd control wasn't on so we all wasted a lot of time searching for the stealth control. Had some pretty significant pain when I started running downhill along gentle, smooth trails and road. Road downslope was enough pain to make me stop and stretch ankle a bit. Funny thing is this is 1st time in my life I would rather run UP a hill than down one! Other than those hard-surface downhills my ankle handled everything great. But definitely much slower and more careful than my normal self. Very nice day in the woods minus the wildfire smoke. Equipment worked great.

Note

Got stuck in MSP overnight on the way out to D.C. last week, and yet again tonight on the way home. Terrible time traveling due to the thunderstorms basically everywhere I was going. Even had a diversion landing in Fargo, N.D. too. Very bad time to be traveling.

Pohick Bay Park. Went out to the woods for the first time since the ankle disaster to see how the ankle handled it. Overall it did really well and I could run on it despite the uneven terrain. It's been acting up a bit lately with occasional moments of pain but most of the time I can walk and even run on it with no pain. Not sure why it's acting up sometimes but the overall trend is upward still. Iced it as I noticed a little swelling today, probably from the combat boots and all the sitting at the desk.
