Biking 30:00 [1]
(injured)

Relegated to the bike. Hip was feeling better this morning after the setback earlier this week, but after sitting at the office for a while I went to stand up and the hip had such a sharp pain I couldn't stand very well. I could bend the leg towards my chest, but standing straight up caused a sharp pain. That lasted a few minutes until I was able to basically walk it off, so I decided to take it easy and bike today and give it some rest tomorrow as usual on Sunday. No issues while biking or after, but I'll be calling the doc to discuss this incident on Monday for sure. I've read about other people who had FAI surgery having similar things happen to them a couple times when they started running again, so hopefully it's just a one off. Will see.

Extended a bit more, but paid for this one. Had pain develop after the run, especially the following day but hoping its just one of the occasional down days that happens every once in a while w/ this recovery. Really frustrating as I have been so cautious and I'm not even on uneven terrain yet.

Note
(injured)

8 month hip post-surgery follow up w/ the Dr. was today. Overall he said there are some good signs and I've been progressing, no major issues. Sitting for long periods of time still produces some symptoms, but running thus far hasn't really done anything, nor biking. He said "keep doing what you've been doing" and suggested I keep increasing distance and time incrementally on fairly even surfaces for at least a couple more weeks and then slowly start introducing uneven terrain, trail runs, woods, etc after that. Gave Rx for physical therapy for training to "return to high-level activity, HEP", etc. I asked if he thought I could get another 9 years out the original parts and he seems to think its doable, but not guaranteed. (9 years is my military retirement date). No need to see him again until the 1 year mark if there aren't any issues between now & then.

Does anyone know of any physical therapists near Ann Arbor / Chelsea that specialize in orienteering / adventure racing athletes? I've been going to U of M Medsport, but they come off like a factory / machine & fairly impersonal and not very goal/athlete-oriented compared to my physical therapist / sports medicine place down in Dayton. This is probably a good time to switch PT providers.

X-cntry running 30:00 [3] 3.17 mi (9:28 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Adidas

First 30 min continuous run since the surgery. Probably the most sluggish-feeling 30 min run in my life, but feels so great at the same time. Once again added a golf course for about the last half mile.

X-cntry running 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Adidas

15 min's run, 2 min rest, 15 min's run. This is another incremental increase in distance & continuous time, plus I added a little bit of golf course running for the last 5 min's to commence my inching towards uneven terrain again, and so it begins.
