WCOC meet.

When transposing the route onto my map, circled wrong boulder for one of the controls, so that tied me up for 20-30 min!

Other than that, just same clumsy mistakes as usual, but one of which resulted in needing to climb considereable terrain due to poor route choice.

Had a few really good controls. All in all an awesome day, perfect weather, challenging but scenic terrain, and straight-up training!

Western Canada Orienteering Championships - Kamloops, BC

Beautiful cool autumn day at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops BC, perfect for a sprint!

Still struggling to get a groove with the sprints. Took off out of the start fairly disorientated, so I wasted a lot of time trying to find the 1st control. Seemed like an eternity before I ws able to finally get things under control, which isn't far from the truth in orienteering terms (4 minutes!!).

Next few controls I developed a pretty good groove, but then had all kinds of problems finding #5, which eventually turned out to be on TOP of the building.

Got to #6 quite fast, but then made a pretty big error by runing towards the wrong control. The map had #6 and #11 as the same physical control, so there were multiple lines passing through #6/11, so I started rocketing down the wrong line and while enroute after an already fairly fast & lengthy dash for a Sprint, I realized my mistake (going after #12 instead of #7), executed a drag (180) and frantically charged back to where I was supposed to be going in the first place. I let the mistake compound iself because in my rush to fix my error I mispunched. There were a few controls fairly close together, two which were in depressions. I went to the wrong depression, one which was not on my course or map. I wouldn't find out about this error until I finished.

The next several controls went pretty well. In fact I was feeling better and more ahead of the game than I ever have. I started making better transitions at the controls and better practice of the map use while transitioning.

#14 turned out to be a thorn in my side as I took off out of 13 on an eroneous vector and thus couldn't find the litte building it was near until I had already lost quite a bit of time.

Had plenty of fuel for wrapping up the rest of the controls quickly.

All in all a great course that was pretty fun and some good lessons learned. Quite frustrated over the struggles, but all I can do is keep at it until I can start putting it together. Excited for tomorrow as it will be my first ever middle course and first non-sprint A-meet race.
