Orienteering race 1:39:04*** 6.64 km (14:55 / km) ahr:123 max:163 11c
HVO/WCOC Winter series #1
Ward Pound Ridge - Green (5km)
Sunny, calm. Upper teens to start. Lower 20s by the end.
Today seemed to be my best opportunity to do this. Not too cold and not too much snow to trudge through. The #1 priority was to do no harm. OK with this as I stayed upright the entire time. Also, didn't want to use the trails too much, as this was more training than competition.
Started off OK. Doing reasonably well through the first four controls and most of the way to 5. Then within a couple hundred meters of the control I veered about 90 degrees to the right. Relocated at the power line, but a long way from the control. Also missed #6, but not as badly. #7 was OK, but I seemed to go brain dead on the way to #8. Didn't read the stone walls very well. On the way to #9 I Made another 90 degree error. From #9 in I had no more problems.
This is a nice course. Glad I could get out on a nice day.
